When was Pulev's prime? When he went the distance with Dominick Guinn? When he went the distance with Paolo Vidoz? When he went the distance with Travis Walker? When he went the distance with Tony Thompson? When he went the distance with George Arias? Or when he got wiped out by Wlad?
Pulev is a solild enough fighter with decent fundamentals to trouble Wilder. However I think we have another classic tale of Wilder's power digging him out a hole. Wilder TKO 8.
Yeah he has. Ustinov, Thompson, Chisora, Fury, Dmitrenko. Much better resume than old man Ortiz. Also he's fought two men, who were right at the top of the division in Wlad and AJ. Wilder has only fought Fury. I'd say Wilder has a punchers chance, but despite landing his hail Mary shot time and time again against Fury he couldn't get him out of there. Pulev by ko is a sensible pick here. I'd pick him over Michael Bentt as well.
It should be taken into account that Pulev would be knocked down, like everyone else. Would he recover, what is his chin like ... Wilder KO. If he was knocked out by Fury, that doesn’t mean everyone would beat him (knock him out).
Tyson Fury was better than Wlad and Fury would be a huge favorite over Joshua, especially after the Ruiz fight, which is when Pulev faced Joshua. Pulev never won anything. He has next to no power. Ustinov, Thompson, Chisora, Dimitrenko aren't anybody. Never won anything either. Wilder was WBC champion for five years. Made 10 successful title defenses. If Wilder defended against Pulev, people on this board (probably you included) would've considered Pulev just another "bum" who Wilder knocked out. Because Wilder WOULD knock him out. And all we'd have heard was why is Wilder fighting Wlad's leftovers?
Pulev built his resume by taking out some of the trash of the Vlad era, punching his ticket for his short ride at Big Time Boxing, and getting absolutely, savagely, KTFO. At the end of it all a british shyster used him as a rebuilding tool. Has anyone actually seen a Pulev fight that wasn't Joshua or Vlad? Picking him over Wilder is silly to me.
