Jim is good , boxing buildup is spectacle and he has a good style .

Back in the 80's I enjoyed the casual professionalism of Barry Tompkins and Al Bernstein with boxers such as Greg Haugen , Livingstone Bramble and Jorge Paez it was a fun time to be a boxing fan

HBOs Production was far superior to those of today. I did like DAZNs production in the Canelo fights vs Yildirim and BJS. But HBOs all around attention to detail production wise is very well missed in todays climate. Im sure their waiting for fighters purses to get back to reasonable value before they think about entering the market again.

Dude grown on me, it just feels like if there's a big event his voice needs to be there along with Max and Roy..

    Damn I miss HBO boxing.

I like him. He's very passionate about the sport and he has a high end ATG voice. But I can't stand most boxing commentators and if I don't dislike someone it generally means they're half decent and I have an equally low opinion of commentators from both over here and across the pond. Sky, PBC, ESPN, DAZN etc. they all annoy me.

Licky Lip Droopy Eye Dre has become unbearable and I find his voice really grating and I hate the way he always finds a way to make it about himself.

Paulie, who I don't even like and have liked, is currently the best we have right now but the old HBO crew were top dollar. Manny Steward is the GOAT and Larry was hilarious and he had a wonderful turn of phrase and was a walking quote generator. Prime Jim was awesome too. I even like the inclusion of Roy despite the fact he had the worst mandible out of every member on the team.

Jim Lampley was a consummate professional and a class act all the way. HBO dropping boxing was a blow to the sport and that's a wound that still hasn't healed.

Larry Merchant was respectable as well, even if he was getting a little slower towards the end. Also, his post fight in-ring interview with Mayweather was one for the ages!

Jim not so much, from 2013 onwards had declined, though he brought allot and actually knew the fighters which was great, however his bias was not,

Though Larry merchant is greatly missed,

while the rest of them we have now currently are all over the place.

Yeah I get that, play by play is overrated.
I can see the fight for myself, this ain’t the old days with radio broadcasts.

why would we need an excitable, blathering idiot calling the fight, skewing it with their network’s bias when We can see the fight for ourselves?

I love me some Lamps. He will go down as one of the best in boxing history. Was sad to see Kellerman start to throw him under the bus for clout as HBO was in its death throes.

Lampley was good at what he does and what he does he hard to do. He knew boxing and had a knack for calling the action. " It happened! It happened. " Lampley describing Foreman's KO over Moorer age 44.
