Sm here, Stevie. If Joe s not lazy then he gets this. Could be a tad similar to the Joe Frazier ft but Joe getting his hand raised.
When he was a young man one of his opponents died after a match with him. That might explain him holding back.
Bugner had good survival skills and could be a frustrating fighter to beat. While Mercer had a ton of heart and good power I don’t know if he had the skills to beat bugner. I can see Joe getting a decision somehow
I think a motivated Bugner would win fairly easily. But even if it could have happened, it would have taken one sick promoter to make it. As imagine how bad it would have been if both showed up unmotivated...
Oh that would have been dire. Bugner and Ray just.. Doing nothing much of anything. Not something I'd like to see. Would rather see Mercer of the Cooper /Lewis fight in there with Bugner of the Frazier fight.
Joe in similar fashion to the Damiani fight except he gets the win and don't get his conk busted ! If both come in a funny mood it could be a very long evening.
This very much depends on what version of Joe turns up. The guy who was heroic against Frazier, creditable against Ali and decapitated Jurgen Blinn and Richard Dunn wins easily here. The Bugner who lost interest against Ron Lyle and sleepwaked through too many fights lets his chance go and loses on points.
Ulrick Regis. It did affect him. He doesn't talk about it now but when Angelo Jaccapucci died after his defeat to Alan Minter, I remember Bugner talking about the dreadful guilt he felt. The best of Bugner came out when he was hurt either physically or, in the case of his fight with Richard Dunn, emotionally. Bugner felt very strongly that Dunn had gone too far with the chat in the build up.
This could either be a classic war, or a very dull affair if either man shows up displaying their bad habits (lack of serious effort). It's easy to look at the Damiani fight and conclude Bugner wins, but the flip side is Bugner went life and death with Lyle who does share similarities with Mercer and isn't a whole lot better (if at all). I think they both have the styles and tools to frustrate the other. Hard to say who wins this matchup.
