Now the average boxer will do lots of damage in a street/bar situation, we know this and there's many examples. But is there any incidents you can think of where a boxer came out on the losing end of a fight? Here's some I can think of: British boxer Adam Little got dropped by one punch by a woman in a bar fight and required dental surgery. Ike Weir who was the first recognized Featherweight Champion was known for street fighting came out on the losing end here and there. I remember reading one where on a newspaper archive that a taxi driver knocked him out with one punch, he admitted that he hit Weir first as Weir was getting hostile and he knew if he didn't hit first he'd be done for. There were rumours that Ricky Hatton got knocked out in a bar fight back in 2010/2011 but don't know whether it was true. Paul Sykes who was said to be one of Britain's hardest/dangerous men from the 60's to mid 80's ended up on the losing end of a bar fight with a bouncer called Terry Mitchell, Mitchell was a rugby player and stated he knew not to punch with him so grappled him and headbutted him several times. This fight cost Sykes's chance to fight Lenny McLean in an unlicensed boxing match. Cliff Field who beat Lenny McLean twice in unlicensed boxing was said to be able to clear out bars by himself and Roy Shaw even said Field was the real "Guvnor" And that he never wanted to fight him. His boxing career came to an end though after he lost his eye in a bar fight when he got glassed, he admitted he started it by shoving the guy out of the way in front of his friends. Not exactly a fair fight but a cruel reminder at how it can be in street/bar fighting.
Nice bit of history there, I haven't heard of any of these happening before. I just searched up the Adam Little one, she also shattered his front teeth aswell. And he needed 800 pound dental surgery. Kinda crazy but just goes to show, if a woman knows how to throw a punch. And sucker punches you anything can happen.
I'm looking for more boxers against non boxers, have you ever heard of Edwin Valero vs Daniel Ponce De Leon though? Apparently they used to get into fights a lot and De Leon bit Valero's ear once.
Didn't Billy Conn have a fight scrubbed because he got into a fist fight with his father-in-law and ended up with a cut? Don't know how the results of the fight actually ended up, but the cut cost Billy money.
In fairness it was years after his retirement, but Primo Carnera got knocked spark out by an African prisoner of war called Kay Masaki during Italy's North African campaigns during the Second World War. Carnera was supposed to beat the snot out of this half-starved fella who had never boxed in his life as part of a propaganda film ordered by Mussolini and to be circulated in Italy to subdue domestic fears about the progress of the War.....Instead Masaki flattened Carnera with one punch according to onlookers.
Buchanan in the 80s/90s when he was starting to lose control of his Drinking and his stability with it, he was living in Coatbridge Scotland, nothing short of the wild west then... anyway he was reminded from time to time by some of the local Street fighting kings.
