Ever since the sport was invented America has ruled boxing. All the best fighters were American, all the big fights were in America and the biggest boxing audience was in America. However recently times have changed and America no longer has the iron grip on boxing it once had. So right now which country produces the most talented fighters, hosts the biggest fights and has the biggest fan base in boxing?
It's very spreaded out now, more international with Japan and other countries. I'd actually say this could be a reason in the disappearing view of boxing in the main stream. Obviously not the pure reason but boxing was at its peak when it was based in the UK and the US. Could just be my view though, it's just how i've viewed it over the years.
The UK arent no1 for producing fighters (top 5 though) but when it comes to how rabid the fanbase is and the numbers fights can do they are definitely in with a shout. 85k tickets sold or whatever it was for Fury/Whyte, AJ having multiple fights in the 70-90k attendance range, 80k for the Froch/Groves rematch, multiple AJ PPVs breaking 1 million buys etc etc. Its pretty crazy for a country thats not actually all that big,
