If you had to go against a boxing champion, who would it be?

You have been falsely accused of a serious crime and have been sentenced to death. Your life will be spared if you fight a reigning champion. Choose any weight class and any champion in history (including alphabet champions). Fight will be a 15 rounder - no throwing in of towel, no saying 'I quit', no taking a dive. Only referee can stop the fight (and he doesn't like stopping fights unless there is a knockout). Your opponent will be in no mood of showing mercy either.

Who will you choose to fight?

I would go up against Nicolino Locche.

Slapsie Maxie Rosenbloom, or if he is indisposed, then Jimmy Wilde.

Paulie Malignaggi. I'm almost guaranteed to go the distance with his feather fists and the fact I'm a cruiserweight. I could even walk through his punches if necessary to land a desperate bomb.

If my life is at stake? Anybody, and I would go hard.
If, to save your life, you are still afraid of getting hurt...your wife would be better off with someone else.

Imagine if you are in the state that Gerald McClellan is in, I would prefer death over that.
Fighting some of the champions might give you severe brain damage or might even leave you in a vegetative state.

I'll fight any minimumweight champion. You pick for me. I'm sure my 100lb weight advantage will help.

I do not know enough about the lightest divisions, but I would certainly pick the worst champ I can find at no more than around 110 lbs.
At that level a few pounds make a difference.
It is fairly likely it would be minimum/strawweight at 105 lbs.
Maybe this guy Manny Melcher with an undistinguished record: https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/1699

Or perhaps the original lightest division flyweight-since without rehydration they might be lighter still, & there are many more to choose from.
Are we allowed to take those who were champions when it was not worldwide, like Sid Smith, the British title holder.

You did not say if we can have time to train-if I had even a short camp to get some halfway decent skills, AND went from OK to somewhat better cardio condition, that would help.
Are we allowed to have a training camp, if so how much time, & hire experts to help us?

Just under 6'. I have no significant combat experience, but if I lost 15-20 lbs & got to around 15% body fat I would likely weigh in at a bit over 200 lbs. Pretty strong from weightlifting for decades.
BUT you said we can fight anyone, not that they need to be our size lol!
So I would rely on being much bigger & stronger & hope to stop him by swarming & cutting off the ring.
Because he is gonna be much more skilled than me-to put it mildly-even with some tutelage.

Or if my endurance might well falter compared to a very fit much smaller man, pick my spots to swarm or slug. Trying to corner him.
If I got no training camp, I would need to pick my spots more because I would gas sooner!

Actually anyway I would research further & prefer a banger than anyone relatively fast, because at that size I should be able to absorb the punishment of a brawler or slugger & my blows would have much more impact than anyone near my size-but someone who is very fast & elusive I may never catch up with.

I would need to count on a stoppage.
Or at least dazing them enough to dominate.

I would not last one round with Azumah Nelson, but I do want to hear what he'd have to say about fighting me. Would he call me a woman? Would he explain that him fighting clum is like a farmer vs. a donkey, and when your donkey acts up, you have to hit him? Would he say, "Any message board poster that wants to fight me, hey, I'ma kill him"?

Ivan Calderon

If it wasn't just boxing I'd go with people more around my weight class as I can then kick and use BJJ.

I'd like a 105 version of Fransisco Rodriguez Jr. please. Easy style advantage, 60lbs weight advantage, not much power to contend with.

The opponent should be a world champion and not a regional champion. Yes, you can train for a few months.

Good post. More or less my thinking.

The thread title doesn't say that you have to win, just fight. My cardio is **** but I've noticed that once I start running it picks up fast.

The main problem would be actually landing a glove on these guys, but there are dirty tricks like stepping on feet, mauling into the ropes and hitting and holding that could help. I've fought little, fast guys before and the main thing is actually getting hold of them. In boxing it would be exacerbated, especially with a strict ref.

I would also go for Miguel Canto.
