Oof. If you are confused about this just happening now, that is because the Scotsman - a former two-time WBO featherweight titlist - had been on the shelf for nine years since a loss to Liam Walsh but still technically active. He was in training for a return match this past weekend, on March twelfth, but his Ghanaian opponent Razak Nettey pulled out last minute - precipitating the decision.

Shame he's leaving with a sour taste in his mouth. He was a tough aggressive battler in his pomp around turn of the millennium, and was even a capable lightweight fringe contender in his first long-form comeback a decade ago (I always liked his spiteful whipping left hook on the body, which did in György Mizsei as effectively in June of 2012 as it had for Michael Brodie in June of 2005). I'm not sure what he was really going to accomplish now at 44, however. One article on Scottish Daily Express suggests that he wasn't deluding himself about mounting a run (being more inclined to focus on his new startup business going forward) and simply wanted to end his career on a win. Poor show by Nettey, then. :ohno

Geez! Thought he had retired already. Last I saw him was a pummeling of The Pocket Rocket.

Wow, that's damn near two decades! That was actually a dozen fights ago in the final successful defense of his first title reign. He'd lose his next one to Manuel "Mantecas" Medina, then avenge the loss to reclaim the belt and make six more defenses before his first lengthy absence from the ring (I think due to legal and substance abuse troubles).

Scott Harrison lived up to every sterotype of Scottish working class people - drunk and lacking discipline.

    He killed his own career.

That long?!?! Good grief...time flies! The Medina fight does sound familiar. Might have been a little too much :sifone: or :Saeufer: a while back

    That african really was shameful.

He even showed up to the venue and refused to come out from the locker room.
Harrison posted a video from his locker room looking perplexed at the situation.

Was there an excuse from Nettey or his camp, ever?

    His paycheck gone too innit.

Why bother even flying out, wasting everyone's (Harrison's particularly) time? :shakehead:
