It is actually much healthier and also more performant to gain weight, take time off and then only focus properly in camp. You need to let the niggles disappear and the muscles to heal - mentally it also very important to switch off.

Guys in the past generally had better skills. A guy like Deontay Wilder would not have been even a contender in the 70s.

This current era of fighters is weak af it’s not nostalgia it’s being real, how can you compare a guy and say they better now when these guys ain’t fighting nobody.
Eras in the past we KNEW guys level because they fought too comp, the current crop we have now we have to guess for the most part because they stall out average fights and spend they career fighting bums with only 1/2 good wins if that.
I’d take Castillo or casamayor or Marquez or mosley and a host of others over every single LW right now.
Trinidad vs Crawford or Porter get real he knocking they block off
Tarver vs GGG or toney or Roy Jones vs GGG or Charlo
These guys need to fight and maybe then we can get an accurate depiction but as currently stands it’s a handful off fighters who would be competitive that we have evidence on but that’s maybe 15% of current guys.

Maybe years from now younglings will be debating why Joe Joyce is one of the most under appreciated h2h heavyweights with modern boxers.

Perhaps the kids watching now will take this era as a fantastic one and talk about it 20 years from now even though they complain about it now. (if global warming hasn't turned us into a burrito in a microwave).

There are plenty of guys struggling with 12 now as it is.
It s common sense they would be worse not better over 15.
