I hope he wins, but it's almost certain it will go to the cards. You can beat Alvarez in the ring but not on the cards.

Indeed. In his hometown, being the cashcow, known for having the judges and commission in his pocket, dominating the fight, and still it was merely a MD.

Mayweather was so shocked by the decision he nearly shed a tear in the ring about the injustice of it. And that was before Canelo was even known for getting favorable decisions. It would seem that it was that decision more than any other that created the perception that Canelo got favorable decisions.

It was more of a sign of things to come.
Almost every big fight he was in since Trout (pre Floyd) had at least one impossible scorecard in his favor.

    Alas:

''Despite Golovkin outlanding Alvarez in 10 of the 12 rounds according to Compubox,[5] the fight ended in a controversial split draw, with Dave Moretti scoring the fight 115–113 for Golovkin, Adalaide Byrd scoring it 118–110 for Álvarez, and Don Trella scoring it 114–114''

That Golovkin performance was the best seen against Canelo as he also hurt him and had Canelo on his bike for the majority of the fight. After all that, only one judge had Golovkin winning and even then barely.

118-110 Alvarez. The corruption loaded into that one card is legendary.

The perception seemed to stem from the Mayweather decision, which was reinforced from thereon.

It's a common theme in boxing in general for there to be an outlier scorecard in big matches. Berto vs Mayweather for example, one judge had 120-108, the other 2 had it 118-110, 117-111. In Khan Peterson, one judge had it 115-110 Khan the other two had it 113-112 Peterson. Charlo Castano, one judge had it 117-111 Charlo, the other two 114-113 Castano and 114-114. So this kind of thing happens pretty regularly in boxing, it's not somthing that only happens to Canelo or anyhing. But some of the reasons why it's happened in several of Canelo matches, is that Canelo matches are notoriously difficult to score, and he's faced multiple top fighters which have produced close barnburners. And in each of those matches (Trout, Mayweather, Lara, GGG1, etc some even say Cotto) Canelo always rises to the occasion and gives a top shelf performance, making it difficult for judges to score rounds against him. You have give Canelo credit for performing as well as he did each time that happened, which surely had a lot to do with the resulting scores.

The reason why this doesn't happen as often for other fighters that make them "known" for judging irregularities is because other fighters don't take on as many difficult styles, aren't as consistent performers as Canelo and aren't as difficult to knock down as Canelo. So there are perfectly understandable reasons why Canelo has had as many decisions that fans disagree with. Canelo has a unique style and produces passion amongst fans that argue that the judge decisions were wrong and he's getting favorable scoring. It's not uncommon for there to be a wide variety of scores in big matches. It happens pretty regularly in boxing so it's not something that only happens to Canelo or anything.

One judge had Sugar Ray Leonard 118-110 over Hagler. How is that any different?

If a Beterbiev fight wasn't around the corner for Canelo then I would 1000% be championing Bivol for this fight.

However, THE fight to make is the Canelo-Beterbiev one so for that reason alone I want to see Bivol lose. However, I hope he puts on a clinic on Canelo (his only chance really to avoid getting the shaft by the judges)

A rubber match with an old, slow, faded and close-to-shot GGG has no intrigue either

I would like Bivol to win but there are too many holes in his guard, Canelo KO's him with a counter-punch in the second half..

I'm sorry but Canelo would never legitimately fight Bivol. I guarantee you we will see a fishy Kovalev-esque pitty pat spar performance.

Recent events in Russia will only harm Bivol's chances. Anybody with the Russian flag will get booed into oblivion.

What will they do as far as National Anthems? Will they not play the Russian national anthem?
