Explain Mayweather Canelo to me ...

What do you want to hear? Canelo just wasn’t good enough then, he might never be good enough at any stage for all we know. The gulf in education between the two on that night was huge.

 

Because Mayweather was that much better than every other first ballot hof fighter the three eras he fought in.

 

Floyd drowned him in an ocean of knowledge and experience.

 

I wouldn't say Canelo had a ton of experience going in , certainly not even close to the same level Floyd had .. But Floyd wasn't even 100 % confident in himself , he had to weaken Canelo first before he would fight him

 

Floyd was just more experienced than Canelo at that point in time and he had no physical advantage over Mayweather other than power. Floyd dictated the pace and saw everything Canelo tried to do a mile away, Floyd would always be a stylistic nightmare for Canelo. Only way for Canelo to ever beat Floyd is if Canelo of today time traveled back to that night in 2013, was allowed to weigh whatever he wanted and man handle Floyd towards a KO. That being said, Canelo learned a lot from that fight and it doesn't take away from his greatness. Mayweather is just the better boxer.

 

Mayweather is just levels above Canelo and it showed.
Mayweather beats Canelo everytime its really that simple.
Only difference is he might win 2 rounds now that's about it.
Mayweather absolutely dominated Canelo lets get that straight. Outclassed him on the outside. On the inside. It wasn't competitive at all.

 

Floyd had too must experience and too skilled. Canelo loses to Mayweather 154 or below at any point in his career

 

Simple. Floyd is an all time great whilst Canelo is just really good.

 

Floyd saw everything he was doing. Canelo was a "good" boxer even back then, just not a great thinking fighter like he is now. It was a very useful lesson for Canelo who thought he could just impose his will on Floyd with his size, youth, and athleticism.

 

Floyd suggested 150. Canelo said no but agreed to 152 without a rehydration clause.

 

Wrong ....According to Canelo camp , Floyd asked for 147 at first .. Point is he had to weaken him before he fought him

 

People acting like this was some Calzaghe/Lacey level thrashing these days or a Foreman/Ali upset. Mayweather was actually a significant favorite, slightly more dominant than expected to be.

Though clearly bested, Canelo actually gave a good account of himself, it's not like he got beaten to a pulp. As to what happened? Mayweather was more experienced on the big stage, had a significant reach advantage, and psyched him out, was able to impose his fight. It is a great win, one of his best, just not the mountain it's being made to be.

Did Canelo improve? He didn't get worse, we can all agree on that. And he got bigger, a lot stronger. Could you see really see the Canelo of the Mayweather fight beating up Kovalev?
