Don't hate on having catchweights, they were grown men he was fighting, they can make their own decision. Meaning nobody put a gun to their head and said "come in drained " if they weren't comfortable at the agreed weight, why would they come in so light?..Cotto, Hatton, Margarito, de la Hoya; they all behaved like champions and made comfort at a difficult place. THEY never publicly blamed their losses on catchweights, but their fans insist so. Pacquiaos run was legendary, an atg and second pound for pound fighter behind Floyd in his era.

I believe catchweights were around for a while, me thinks (correct me if I'm wrong) that Donny Lalonde vs sugar Ray Leonard was contested at a lower weight than lightheavy but was for all the marbles at 175. Donny said he didn't even think the fight was gonna happen due to the last minute because of the weight disparage. We all know what happened there.

Then there was Oscar vs Hopkins at middleweight. It was contested at 157 or was it 158 lbs? Frick, Hopkins came in lighter than de la Hoya was! Not to mention Floyd and Canelo are avid users of the catchweight. Correct me if I'm wrong on that. Clenelo and fluid haters can contest what it is that they do. I'm not hating.

The point is, if you have faith in yourself and have integrity, play the b side then win and be the a side in the rematch. Look here, Chad Dawson challenged Andre Ward at a full weight class not as a catchweight. That was because he believed in his abilities. The thing what got him though was that he got dropped in sparring for that fight so Dre told him to his face at the weigh in about how he heard of the trouble he had getting knocked out in training. His shoulders shrunk and ward knew he had the fight won already mentally.

Boxers must look out for themselves do what they gotta do to win. Maidana took 1.5 or 2 million just to wear the Floyd gloves. Floyd paid a million or so to Juan Manuel Marquez for a pound overweight or so. I'm not saying be dirty, but I'd rather see a overly aggressive guy than a soft guy, peace to Hopkins, John Ruiz, and Holyfield. They did everything in order to win their fights no matter what it took:

Hopkins ball punch and headbutt with elbow, Ruiz academy award acting and Greco Roman wrestling, Evander Holyfield with peds from a Mackie shilstone Mr Olympia. You don't play boxing. Just like the saying goes, it's not an intentional headbutt but knowing where to put your head. Just the position of where you put it. Nuff said.

Cotto - shamefull catchweight. shame on pacquiao

Margarito - Still a catchweight but Margarito is really just a big WW and not a 154 and hes said that before. shouldnt of been a CW but not THAT bad

Oscar - Pac had to jump up 2 weight classes and Oscar come down 1. both agreed to the terms and Oscar was the a-side so he had to propose some of it, no wrong for this one

Cotto was just 2 pounds and I don't think was going to make any difference. Just like Floyd with canelo it was mainly to gain a slight psychological edge imo

Margarito was a way bigger fighter and manny Had no business at the weight. I have no problem with the catchweight

Oscar was the A side and being thr much bigger man, he was happy to go down, as Manny was obviously the underdog and jumping a couple of weights. Oscar looked like absolute sh1t and was likely very overtrained, but it was his call and wasn't a catchweight

I do think catchweights are BS, as we have enough divisions in boxing, but Manny beats the above 3 regardless at that time. Prime Oscar would eat him up at 147

DLH was so drained, he weighed less than Pac fight night. It was all about the money. It was worse than a catchweight, DLH had not fought at that division in 7 years. I have no doubt in my mind prime DLH beats prime Pac as Marquez and Morales did. DLH was better than both.

When I was a kid, my Aunt T told me about a swimming pool that was-oop-wait a minute, Amazon package-

...Okay, I'm back. Anyway, it was the Sharewood girl and her younger brother Jeb that come down every Sunday for Bible school and snacks. Why, we'd just eat the most delectable snacks with cheese and relishes, condiments aplenty. It was the best time. But the Sharewood girl said it was too hot for Bibling that day and she wanted to take us kids swimming by the pool Aunt T told us all about. I-dammit, I gotta go. I think my sofa cushion covers are here this time. They were supposed to send them in the same package to be eco-friendly! This is truly beyond the pale! I will be back soon, I hope but I am going to publish this comment unfinished for now so that you know I am engaged in your thread and here is a tbd at the right-handed corner of the comment box: tbd (to be dondinued)

Oscar was not drained, he worked the whole camp to lose the weight, walked around and trained in it and Pacquiao also jumped up 2 weight classes dont know why you forget that. Morales fought a out of prime pacquiao, pac wrote the wrong of just fighting in a straight line in the rematch and oscar isnt half the counter puncher than marquez was mr casual

    Revisionism changed that Oscar win.
Back then it was viewed like this before the fight

Cherrypick gone wrong on oscars part.
Would have been like Canelo dragging crawford up to 160 and getting his ass kicked.

Pac really is the guy who made Catchweights mainstream. There were catchweights before in other eras, but they were more common around the epic rise of Manny Pacquiao. Credit though to Pac, he was a smaller dude who took on much bigger challenges than most, and made it possible for smaller talented fighters to want to move up higher weight classes and test their greatness against elite bigger men. He set the bar high. But a fight with Floyd in 2010 would have been Legendary.

    Strong ******.

Oscar wasn’t a catchweight, it was at 147, that’s not a catchweight. Oscar had a rematch set with Floyd at 147, his last fight was a catchweight with Steve Forbes at 150, Floyd backed out so he made Pac jump up 2 divisions.

Hatton was a fight at 140, his prime undefeated, lineal weight.

cotto was a catch weight but tbh, by that point, Pac was trying to figure out if 147 was a fluke. Cotto weighed 156 his previous fight, weighed 155 for the fight and said he was not drained in the slightest for the fight, he looked amazing too, so no excuses there.

margarito, lol, one of the biggest WW ever, who gives a fk.
