    Round 1

Azuma is holding out a long jab at full extension and pawing down at the shorter Hase. Quick duck-in body jabs by Hase. Azuma sliding his feet to give him space and elude, but Hase following through and touching him with a 1-2 downstairs. Jab feint up top, right cross in the abdominals by Hase while Azuma scoots away rapidly in a straight backward line. Big flurry by Azuma in the last half minute, clobbering down at the upper back of Hase after he dives inside, with Hase countering in hooking combos on the body. Messy exchange, neither landing cleanly.

    10-9 Hase

    Round 2

Azuma is darting in and throwing straight combos into Azuma's exposed left armpit, getting under the lazy jab. They circle warily and trade jabs, Azuma's high and Hase's low. They check-parry each other's left gloves a bit, and then Azuma steps in with a triple jab on the bridge of the nose backing Hase up some. Hase spreads his base wide and pushes off the lead foot to fade outside and slip the Azuma jab, then rushes in for his turn. Nice sequence by Azuma, pressing in with a flurry on a retreating Hase and grazing him with a hook on the cheek. Hase ducking the jab and crashing his shoulder into Ayama's belly.

    10-9 Hase, closer

    20-18 Hase

    Round 3

Azuma is teeing off, looking to punish Hase when he comes ducking in for jabs with heavy downward blows atop the crown. Some are landing as rabbit punches, but that's a lot due to Hase cricking his neck and pointing his face at the canvas. The crowd gets heated up watching Azuma pour on the intensity but he never quite sticks anything to Hase in a way that gets him in trouble. Hase is able to duck & slither or block & shoot his way free with straight volleys. The pace slows but Azuma keeps the pressure going all round.

    10-9 Azuma

    29-28 Hase

    Round 4

Hase is pecking in with high double jabs and gets caught by a reverse one-two from Azuma - first throwing his right hand straight as a lead and then shifting his footing as he follows through with a stiff jab. They clinch and tap each other's kidneys, nothing flagrant, break called. Hase darts in and jolts Azuma with an up-jab on the underside of the chin. Hase doubles his jab into the forearm of Azuma, looking for an opening, then keeps moving counter-clockwise biding his time. Azuma throwing big chopping shots at the neck and getting Hase caught in headlocks inadvertently when Hase slips to his side and wedges his skull into Azuma's floating rib. Azuma nails Hase with some heavy rights - and down he goes just before the bell! It was a judo toss, but it was due to Hase being so wobbled from a chopping right that he was held up by his quick-thinking grab onto Azuma's waist. Probably would have gone down without the clinch and you could argue that Azuma flinging him off just left him picking up where he left off mid-fall with his legs shaky.

    10-9 Azuma

    38-38

    Round 5

Glove touch at the bell. Hase begins jabbing his way in, brushing loose strands of hair from his line of sight. Azuma isn't giving him any breathing room, stretching a jab over the head of Hase to get him ducking and then pounding down on him with a two-fisted gavel attack. Hase is grinning as he slips, jabs, and moves, but Azuma is getting to him. Lots of shots are blocked on the shoulders and elbows as Hase shrimps up but Azuma is getting through with head and body shots and even the blocked ones have some reverb. Hase jumps in and tries a 1-2-3 but very little on it, and he is holding weakly after each flurry. Azuma floats his left fist and readies it to bat down Hase's jabs when they come. They circle and pose, watching each other. Accidental rabbit punch by Azuma just before the bell. The ref takes a point for it.

    9-9 (10-9 Azuma pre-deduction)

    47-47 Azuma

It all hangs in the balance on my card in the sixth & final round! :ibutt

This is decidedly low-level stuff; neither guy is ever sniffing a national title or likely setting foot outside the Land of the Rising Sun to compete for an OPBF, etc. - but they're milking the most of what they've got and putting on a heck of a late night show for this sparse little crowd at the Wolhfahrt in Toyama. :deal:

    Round 6

Azuma is ripping uppercuts as Hase dives in with a jab and holds. The ref is having to get involved as the misses from either man are being parlayed into rough clinches every few seconds. Heavy left hooks downstairs by Azuma. Hase squats in close and throws some hooks on the body himself, with both arms, leaving his own head wide open exploiting his opponent's long-limbed nature making it difficult to find such a close target with short punches. Azuma pries him off and lands some right hands at medium-range. Hase darting around, ducking and wrapping his arms over his face, peeking up and throwing overhands as he is chased down. They scrap until the bell.

    10-9 Azuma

    57-56 Azuma

Not the worst decision; I would have frankly been a little surprised if they gave such a close one to a pretty clear B-side like Azuma. (both men came in with 5 wins, but Azuma brought 6 losses and two draws compared with half as many blemishes for Hase, three losses and one draw; not to mention that Hase is the local Toyama boy while Azuma visits from Sapporo).

They give Hase a trophy and the big klutz immediately bobbles it (to be fair his gloves haven't been removed yet, but it really wasn't a very awkwardly sized or shaped cumbersome thing) and drops it, the little piece on top breaking off. He tries scooping it up and playing it off as if nobody will notice, two second rule. :risas3::risas3:

I now kind of want to keep an eye out for Narumi Yukawa (southpaw 26 year old who defeated both of these guys in his first two pro bouts, and is now 4-0 with three kayos after debuting a year ago last Friday)
