There was nothing suspicious about the Kovalev bout. He was a shopworn fighter who recently had tried to adopt a more boxing-oriented style, which actually was somewhat successful as it keep him out of harm's way. It's likely, imo, that he was being cautious because he physically was not up to a war and he knew it.

The analog here is Roy Jones fighting so meekly against Glen Johnson. He offered no resistance. In both cases an aging fighter who had been KO'd/severely hurt came back too quickly. You'll get no argument from me that Kovalev fought timidly, but that's not enough to say he was throwing the fight.

Exactly. Good analogy with RJJ against Glen Johnson. Same kind of thing with Kovalev against Canelo. Older fighter who came back too quickly, was worried about getting KO'd again, fought very cautious, scared, felt weak, chinny, couldn't take his usual risks, etc, ended up fading in the later rounds and got brutally KO'd again.

What a load of shite lmao. You are definitely a Canelo bot. He didn't fight scared, he looked like he couldn't care less in the ring. Zero lateral footwork, zero in out footwork, zero hesitation to Canelos punches. Not only was Kovalev pawing with every single jab and every other punch but he was PULLING his punches...this was throughout all rounds. These are things Kovalev has shown consistently against bigger and harder hitters throughout his career (Eleider and Yarde for example are huge LHWS, cruisers almost, and hit damn harder than Canelo that's for sure. Yarde is also a pretty sharp counterpuncher despite having limited ring IQ).

Absolutely ridiculous thinking he fought the way he did because of alcohol and being unhealthy. You think an unhealthy person cannot throw a single punch with intent? and just all of a sudden forget all his attributes that have been entrenched within him for years? And all against a smaller guy who eat straights like M&MS (see Lara and Golovkin's jab) gtfoh you obvious bot. Stop trying to damage control Canelo due to the threads title

It's only real if a European wins. Is that it?

This block of text looks like you are in urgent Canelo defence mode. There's definitely something suspicious about your account.

There's something suspicious about my account? LOL you're a very funny guy Q, and I do enjoy your tinfoil hat conspiracy ramblings about Canelo fight "fixes".

You're definitely the "X Files" of this board, but it's funny to see you invent your conspiracies about Canelo fights. If I ever see a UFO or see an Alien get beamed down from a spaceship in the forest, I'll be sure to let you know, maybe you can find the aliens you have been searching for and they can beam you up and take you back to their planet like that movie fire in the sky.

Why would you feel sorry for me? Being a Canelo fan is pretty much the best thing ever, much better than being a GGG fan and crying about the big fat L he took every day.

This fight is going to suck - a replay will barely be watchable

First off, there isn't a snowballs chance in hell that Bivol will be allowed a decision. This is always the case with Clenelo but it is made infinitely worse by the fact that Bivol is a Russian. The Russian hate is intense and they will absolutely not let one knockoff the only bankable star in boxing. 0.0% chance. Bivol's status as an asian minority and muslim will earn him no brownie points (in fact it won't be allowed to be mentioned).

Secondly, Breadman makes a good point - Bivol doesn't like to be hit. There's a reason that a guy that's so talented is always in forgettable fights. He will not take a risk. Ever.

However, Bivol is bigger, heavier hitter and much more skillful than Caleb Plant or Callum F'ing Smith (who gave us a clown performance) so Canelo will not simply steamroll him and beat him like a rag doll. Im guessing he won't even attempt to.

Very Kovalev-ish, low intensity, low contact fight that is skillful ....the cards are already filled in 118-110 across the board and on Sunday morning nobody can recall any single specific moment of the fight.

I'll have to rewatch it again, but I remember at the time, around 4 or 5 rounds into the fight, that "Kovalev is pulling his punches. This looks like a glorified sparring session"

If you were around then, or maybe even born, you would have seen the fear in Spinks face. Tyson had fights won before stepping in the ring.

Yeah I think Kov lost control one time and hit Canelo to the body with a right hand and moved him back. There seemed to be a look of concern on Kov face like he ****ed up.
