Is anyone disappointed that Fury hasn't taken his career more seriously?

At times we've gained glimpses of just how good Fury is when he actually tries. Literally he could be in the top 10 HW's if he just kept his fat ass in shape, trained consistently and took it more serious.

If he trains hard, whoops Whyte, whoops Joshua and beats Usyk, then he'd be definitely an ATG probably top 10 HW's ever.

He is an absolute freak, to the degree where we've never seen anyone like this. Who moves that quick at that height? No body. He's pretty much the complete boxer at his best.

I really wanna see the Tyson fury we saw in Fury vs Wilder 2. That was Fury at his best.

Wilder couldn't get near him. I think the only reason Wilder stood a chance in 2021 is because Fury was way out of shape. He was noticeably slower and his reactions weren't there.

I really hope he doesn't retire after Whyte and faces either Usyk or Joshua.

Fury's ace up his sleeve is his size and mobility. A big part of his game and success is his ability to tire out opponents by leaning on them. If he worked out religiously, he'd lose a big facet of his game.

I'm not saying he has to get lean, it's not just about weight it's about being in shape. He was out of shape in his last fight, he was slower to react and not as sharp.

The reality is he doesn't train consistently, he only trains weeks before a fight starts. If he'd trained consistently for wilder, he'd have been sharper and beaten him more decisively, rather than almost getting KO'd twice.

Considering where he was mentally in 2016-2017, I think he has been taking his career pretty serious as of late. However the Fury who destroyed Christian Hammer and Klitschko was a specimen!

What do you want him to do?

He could barely get fights as an amateur due to his size

Haye wasted end of 2013 ended up fighting Joey Abbel obese 8 months later

Feb 2014 Ustinov fight cancelled mid 2014 due to hughie falling ill then passing away.

Chisora rematch saved Fury from wasting 2014.

Wlad fight delayed 3 months due to Wlad injury 2015

Wlad rematch delayed due to Fury rolling his ankle then cancelled entirely due to UKAD & Fury's ill health 2016

    Was mentally unwell from 2015-2017

12 months to lose the weight & get in ok shape 2018

Should have cancelled 3rd Wilder bout but he is a born and bred fighting man as proven.

& being a big time PPV boxer means you're limited to 2 fights a year which straight up sucks.

AJ keeps getting KO'd ruining that bout.

Whyte almost didn't take this bout also!

ignoring fighters who have straight up ducked Fury but that's just boxing and business.

No, he has his problems. However I do feel in his heart of hearts he isnt a big risk taker eventhouh he wants to appear that way and due to his mentality cuts corners a lot when he doesnt have a fight lined up.
And even then he is willing to pull out if the situation would benefit him.

Fury doesn't have a carefully managed career fighting 50 year old washed up men

I'm just making assumptions here, but I think a lot of his last performance against Wilder might have something to with his new born being in hospital. I know he was jogging too and from the hospital quite regularly. I can't say that I'd be in a great head space given the situation.

But if he trained harder and consistently between fights, he'd become leaner. He doesn't look it, but he's very in shape come fight night. He looked a tick slower in their third fight because Wilder wisely targeted his body in the early rounds.

Basically, Fury is in a unique position where he's the much larger man in the ring in every fight and it's a huge advantage. Disrupting that size would not be good for him and he knows this.

Fury was only 5lbs heavier for his 3rd fight with wilder, but he was much slower.

It's not specifically about weight, it's about being in shape.

    “Fury isn’t a big risk taker” ???

Fury was a highly inexperienced 7-fight novice when he took on the English champion John McDermott

He was a relatively inexperienced 14-fight novice when he took on the undefeated British and Commonwealth champion Derek Chisora as the underdog

He went to Germany to dethrone the 11-year reigning ATG champ Wlad as the heavy 7-1 underdog

He went to the US less than a year after being morbidly obese to fight undefeated heavy hitting champ Deontay Wilder as the underdog

He got dropped twice hard in their first bout, almost KTFO’d in the 12th round, but still made the Wilder rematch happen when he could have hid behind the PBC / Top Rank promotional divide

Fury has taken risk after risk in his career, when he could have taken 30 tune up fights against bums before challenging for a world title like Wilder, or fighting shot 40 year olds like Joshua on home soil with bodyguard refs and bent judges every time. Fury’s first two title defences are Wilder and Whyte.

Tyson Fury is the definition of a risk taker.

    Stellar post.

His own father tried to talk him out of facing Wilder in 2018. Fury didn't give a damn, showed AJ how to step up and meet his doubter.

I do wonder how long he's got left at the top. Wilder 2 was fantastic. Wilder 3 was a good win but he took some big punches and had to pick himself up off the deck in an attritiononal war.

Even walking straight forward he's f****** massive so he's going to give guys problems but i'd like to see him using his boxing against Whyte diffuse any danger and then smash him up from the mid rounds.

He could go down as an ATG easily. If he beats AJ and Usyk he's beaten all of the big names of his generation. Long reigning belt holders, unified champs, dominant champs from the division below he'd have very little left to prove but time might be against him with how long it takes fighters to actually get in the ring these days.
