Never really watched Golovkin other than a few highlights here and there, I've never paid attention to most boxing of the last 10 years other than a few boxers I always made sure to watch so really missed his prime, so I thought this would be the best place to come and ask a questions about him hoping for some information such as: Where does he rank with the greatest Middleweights of all time? How does he do against other Middleweight greats H2H? Where does his power rank P4P? What are his best performances? What are his most entertaining fights? Who gave him his hardest fights?
he's like the 4th or 5th goat middleweight He beats most of them. except hopkins, monzon. he hits hard but it was overblown by the amount of low level guys he was knocking out david lemieux canelo 1 and 2. canelo 1 and 2 and jacobs and chenko
That's quite the interpretation. I saw GGG just milling forward like usual with no respect for his power knowing he'd crack like a peanut eventually. What use it is looking good in spurts for an opponent who is doing whatever he likes. Full control. GGG could have beaten Brook without a training camp.
I saw it the same way. Not that Brook didn't offer any challenge or what, but he certainly didn't box GGG's ears of. Golovkin didn't suffer any significant damage and he knew he just had to keep going forward to get the win
I wouldn't have him high, not at all. His résumé is frankly pathetic compared to any great middleweight, and his nine title defences aren't really enough. Prior to Daniel Jacobs, it's quite easy to view GGG's title reign in a similar way to how most view Wilder's - the numbers don't mean much just because the names they're based off are so poor. I'd personally have him in the early 40s, but that's without take H2H into consideration at all. He'd do pretty well. Personally, I think he's either in, or just below that second tier of middleweight greats. If guys like Monzon, Hopkins, Jones and Hagler make up tier one; and guys like Toney, McCallum, Tiger, LaMotta, etc; make up tier two, GGG is around that level, but probably just slightly below those IMO. He does bring some massive advantages to the table though, like massive power, excellent fundamentals and a granite chin. He's not easy for anyone outside of that first tier. I have never ranked pound-for-pound punchers far enough to include GGG, but he's a collosal puncher. His best performances are pretty much anything between 2013 & 2015. He pretty much blew everybody away with ease around that time. I'm specifically impressed by the Geale, Rosado and Murray fights. Sheer destruction. His best fights are Canelo II & Derevyanchanko. His closest fights are Canelo I & II, Jacobs and Derevyanchanko. He either won or lost all of them, depending on who you listen to. I personally scored all four of them six rounds for six, although he dropped both Jacobs and Derevyanchanko, meaning I had him winning those two fights.
You underestimate Hagler's boxing ability. Hagler was a very smart boxer. A very intelligent man in a boxing ring which is often overlooked because he was such a war horse. He beats all of these chumps. GGG, Clenelo, Amir Khan you name it.
