Maybe. I was just trying to look at it objectively and have great respect for Roy and Tarver.

Tough call, Jones' form was not good after his fights with Tarver which was an indication he was in decline, he did beat Tarver albeit in a close fight in their first meeting which suggests he grew old overnight which can happen with fighters, i will give Jones Jnr the benefit of the doubt and say yes, at his peak he would have beaten Tarver, as a slightly faded version managed it first time around.

I never put much stock in Jone's weight drained excuse. He weighed in for Ruiz at 193 he was fully clothed with work boots on! So he was probably closer to 190. He had to make 175 on the scales for the Tarver fight. Fighters do that all the time. (Oh, but it was solid muscle and no fat you say...well a highly trained athlete putting on 15 lbs of solid muscle is way suspicious lol)

He won the first Tarver fight anyway.

This has already been answered in their first fight. Since Jones beats Tarver with a majority decision at 35 years old past his prime, it is factual prime Jones would be more active and outbox Tarver for an easier UD. It's just logic.

Also in the second fight I think if my memory serves correctly Jones was winning rounds comfortably before what many consider a lucky punch by Tarver.

It wasn't a lucky punch, but i agree that prime Jones beats Tarver

I saw Jones positioned his guard up way before Tarver throw his right hand and connect. This punch is blocked 99% of the time. Hence why it is a lucky punch. Tarver did not KO a shot Jones in their third fight.

    How was it an excuse?

    You saw it yourself.

He was completely gassed after 8 rounds in a fight which wasn’t fought at a fast pace.

There's a round in there 3rd fight...don't ask me which one because I've not seen it for ten years...where it's like Jones remembered his peak self and he ****in puts hands on tarver....he looked amazing n tarver didn't know what was going on..then bell went n he went back to putting the earmuffs on the rest of the fight n shelling up on the ropes... madness....I'll have to watch it again...TBF I don't like going back watching it cos Jones was so much better than tarver it actually makes me sad to go back and watch it

I think it was round 5.

Roy seemed happy to just cause Tarver issues and make it until the 12th round.

Sounds about right...my memory said 4 or 5 but honestly it's a lifetime ago....but yeah ...it was only round in the fight he did it..rest of the fight was just him trying to showboat leaving the illusion he was winning..which he wasn't...gimme a 2001 roy against tarver and he'd smash him to bits

Tarver ktfo a prime Jones who was a mere two fights from his prime win over Ruiz. So no, roid was not in decline but Tarver sure as hell put him there.
