Has Warrington always been head first, so blatantly?

I have watched this guys whole career and enjoyed watching him fight but his blatant head butting and being able to get away with it, is annoying me. Did I miss it before or is it getting worse from him? Honest post as I didn't really notice it as much before, I am geniunely interested in knowing if I missed it earlier because it seems more pronounced to me now?

Noticed it in the Selby and Galahad fights but didn’t think much of it because them 2, especially Galahad, are messy fighters anyway.

His head was absolutely covered in Vaseline against Lara in the second fight and the same last night.

I can’t believe the plaudits he is getting for beating someone that Quigg took out in 2 rounds over a decade ago.

It's how he beat Selby, that and running away from the fight for two years

The guy's absolutely shameless milking of Leeds United and their supporters has grated for years. The blatant pre-planned headbutting is a more recent reason to find Warrington hard to like. At least he's tucked away on DAZN where the whole thing is easier to ignore.

It’s his style, people need to stop crying. People dislike / look down on JW because of his Hearn links, and the annoying Leeds thing that he goes on about but he’s one of our top boxers and has been for a few years. He’s regularly in a good fights and is entertaining.

He is definitely a dirty boxer. His whole style is based on being relentlessly come forward, not giving you a moment to breathe and hitting you in every single body part. Yes his head comes in as part of that style and it’s not pleasant, but it’s effective. The comparison to Hatton is valid, though Ricky had the power to go with the style which meant he managed to get rid of more people earlier and hence he didn’t have a reputation of as many long, ugly fights.

What I will say, is people need to stop bitching about Josh’s style because he’s managed to get back to the top of the tree. He can clearly get beat. Hatton was much better than Warrington but was beatable. If someone is charging in with their head, you can beat them by moving around them - stick and move. You have to be good to beat someone like Warrington - you have two choices - outbox him and don’t let him catch up with you, or hit him harder on the chin than a donkey kicks, that stops him from charging at you.

    Box rec currently have Warrington at #6 at Featherweight, with the following top 5;
    1. Navarette
    2. Santa Cruz
    3. Magsayo
    4. Russell Jr
    5. Lara

Clearly there’s the ability to beat Warrington in that mix. My gut is that he’ll take on Leigh Wood, who I would imagine he will beat.

    Stop moaning.

Nowt I hate more in boxing than seeing fighters trying to drum up support through footy.

I didn’t hear any mention of rematching Lara Saturday night, although plenty of other names were mentioned. Only person who mentioned Lara was bellew, who suggested him as an opponent for Martinez. Ridiculous statement.

how long will he be out with broken jaw and hand, I presume a summer stadium showdown with Wood will be out of the question?

Outside of Leeds, I don’t think he is even that popular.

Except he isn't - he'll be a darling of the BBC which is basically Matchroom's propaganda station these days. Bunce never says a bad word about anyone connected with Matchroom and DAZN, and hasn't since his pal Costello went there.

Ruined 2 fights in a row with headbutts, to make it worse both times the ref ruled it a punch despite him being know for headbutting and use of the head in most of his previous fights.

In the words of Sean O'Hagan, "we've moved on"

He said the same words about Kid Galahad after his lad was unable to land a glove or headbutt on him.

In fairness to them..... they've just stopped the geezer who was certainly able to land a glove on Galahad's chin.

Aye! I have to admit, I thought it was fitting for the Wood - Conlan fight.
