Robert Fitzsimmons in later times. When would he be just as successful?

Where could he made an impact, if for example, he'd been a fighter in the 1920 s - 1950 s.?
I love Ruby Rob and as a fighter he fascinates me.

He would need to adjust to different fighting conditions and changes in opponent styles, but when you have demonstrated KO effectiveness that is top 5 in the history of the sport lb4lb, that's gonna translate. Though his career would be focused at middle and light-heavy, he would do well, if not exceedingly well, in any era. You simply can't teach what he did.

Lol obviously he would adjust his style. If you have a chin, natural power, and smarts you can do well in any era.

He'd be P4P GOAT candidate in any era.

He would be an absolute sensation at super middle and light heavy. His status would be similar to guys like peak Roy Jones, Hopkins, Canelo, etc. Would probably retire with a ludicrous KO% and several defenses.

A nightmare opponent for anyone at middle and light heavy, as others have said would need to adjust to whichever era fighting in, even if it just the rule changes.

Ruby Robert would do just fine in the 20s-50s, win most lose a few.

So if we pretend he was born in a later era, what happens to the things that formed the original Fitz? For one thing, he would be unlikely to have developed his strength as a blacksmith in a later era. So what happens to his hitting power? We don't know.

And what about all the other intangibles, that made him what he was 130 or so years ago? Would he bring them with him, if he was born into, say, today's era? Obviously not... so who knows, if he would even develop into a top boxer?

And why would we even want to change him in the first place? He was one of the greatest fighters in his own time - why isn't that enough? Why do we need to convince ourselves, that if only we change him a little, he would be great in any era? I don't get it!

    I get it.

His own era may not have had the talent that us moderns can relate to

Before passing judgement on Fitz, I'd like to see him first get past Thomas Hearns, Hagler, Bob Foster, Galindez, Dwight Braxton, Mike Spinks

and that's not going to happen

I think that his options would only increase in later years.

More weight classes, more versions of the title, less pressure to fight at higher weights.

A finisher is a fighter who is likely to translate well into any era, and a fighter that everybody wants.

If there was some technical advance that he needed to embrace, you would simply teach it to him.

Fitz would do just fine with his skill set...shoeing mules and hammering out wagon wheels with the best of them in any era...
