Trust me I agree with you but that’s how it will be. I think this is one of the better eras of HWs but I also know that this era is heavily criticized.
I think if the fans want it bad enough and there's enough money involved then Whyte would take the rematch. It would be too big not to do. Or Fury would wait for Whyte to get beat by Joshua/Uysk winner, and then face the winner of that, then if he becomes champ again, he can rematch Dillian in like 2024.
Or that Douglas would beat Tyson. There are lots of times in the HW division where a fighter lost to an opponent he was supposed to beat without a problem.
I'm always quite mystified how Fury is such an overwhelming favourite, lets be honest Wilder is a crap boxer outside of his right hand. And Fury was floored 4 times by Wilder, yes Fury deserves credit for getting up 4 times. But Wilder is limited and the so called "Master boxer" Fury was floored 4 times by a very limited fighter. Then there's Klitschko fight, which was one of the worst Heavyweight title fights in history. Basically a glorified sparring session, because an old Klitschko wouldn't throw a single a punch. Like am i missing something here ? i just never get why Fury gets put on such a pedestal. Like i get the appeal why people like him, he's big guy with good movement and good skills, and he has an entertaining persona outside of the ring whether you like him or not. But i don't see why he should be a massive favourite over Whyte, with people giving Whyte virtually no chance. Fury has looked vulnerable in his early career McDermott, Pajkic, Cunningham, and he's looked vulnerable in his latter career Wilder, Wallin. Do i think Fury will win ? yes. But do i have him as an overwhelming favourite like everyone else does ? no. For me this will be one of Fury's most dangerous fights, he's had in his entire career. Lastly i just want to say I don't dislike Fury, although I'm not a fan of his or Whyte for that matter. And to be honest i'm not a fan of modern Heavyweights in general. But i don't quite see what everyone else sees in Fury, i see him as a big guy with good skills, but for me he still has some vulnerability.
Wilder is limited but he has 1 skill. He has landed the right on every one's faced bar Fury in fight 2. He's not the most skilled but no one has really managed to avoid his power...Fury has gotten up from it and knocked wilder the F out. Fury's style has changed in recent fights with rumors he legs might not be as mobile as they were. So maybe he's a fighter subtlety in transition. A fighter who can alter his fighting style by fight or part way through their career has to be respected. Whyte himself isn't a technically brilliant fighter. His feet are slow, his head movement limited and his defense has plenty of gaps for an accurate puncher. He's also been known to gas in fights and throw himself off balance. Klitschko was a dominant champion and had everything his own way for years. Fury put that out the window. the fight itself isn't a great watch. Why didn't Wlad want to throw?- very simply because he couldn't land his jab. For years Wlad's offensive was setup by a ram rod jab capable of creating space and damage and keeping anyone from getting close. Fury used accentuated head movement and footwork to take that away from Wlad and won a jabbing content where Wlad did't throw big shots till about round 10. Outpointing a long reining champ away from home and taking away his best weapon? That is a masterful performance even if the fight wasn't great. Fury did struggle at times early in his career the McDermott fight being the most worrying of them but he did clearly win the rematch. Few fighters perfom at an elite level every fight. Off nights are to be expected over the course of a career. Getting dropped in a fight happens and every time he got up to win. Wallin is still an unknown and he caused the cut but otherwise bar a worrying 12th Fury was beating the tar out of him. Whytes chance according to many is to land something big and keep Fury down but so far no one else has been able to do it. Whytes a good puncher but already a number of opponents have been able to stand up to his power. If we are talking about Fury's poor performance's we should also mention Whyte's was stopped by AJ and stopped by an old shop warn Povetkin. He was dropped by an undersized Rivas and twice went life and death with Del Boy. Personally i think Fury will box early and try and establish the longer range punches to keep Whyte at a disance before trying to up the ante later in the fight and looking to stop Whyte. Fury can beat him in a straight out brawl or he could try and outbox him. Whyte's chance seems to be land something big.... Fury will rightly go in as a heavy favorite he's got more tools in his arsenal. He's simply the better boxer who if he can bring all his skills to the front should stop Whyte in the mid to late rounds. Dillian has a chance and he might get an opening but he will have to bring his absolute best game to win.
Nothing wrong with losing and regaining your status. Problem in AJ's case is that he was never the true champeen of the division in the first place.
That's a good well thought out post, I don't disagree with anything you said. I'm just not quite as sold on Fury, or rate him quite as highly as most people do. But if he beats Whyte and Usyk then fair play to the man.
Anything is possible in boxing, and that’s one of the reasons why we love the sport. But if Wilder couldn’t I highly doubt Whyte will. But to go along with the premise of the thread. If Whyte were to win I’m sure there’s be a rematch or Whyte facing one of the other two. Don’t forget Whyte is mad about his purse so he probably wouldn’t make things easy for Fury to get a rematch right away.
