Does anyone else miss the boxing era from the start of 2016 - the start of 2020 before the pandemic hit?

Maybe it's because sort of mid 2015 is when i got heavily into boxing and these days I'm not as much of a hardcore as i was between 2016 and 2020 and I'm older and changed a bit, but there's just something about that time that i miss. I kind of miss matchroom and sky's partnership and the big PPV fights they had in those years, i know fights like Haye bellew was were all a con and other fights maybe shouldn't have been PPV etc, but with the matchroom X Sky hype machine i would be lying if i wasn't always really excited for the sky PPV fights like Haye Bellew, whyte chisora, whyte parker etc, but there was also some great fights like brook vs GGG and brook vs spence, there was also a time maybe 2016 or 2017 where the Uk had something like 13 male world champions and there seemed to be a fight night every couple of weeks on sky that had a main event world title fight headline, fights like corolla linares, burns indongo etc. You also had the group of fighters that were the headliners in those years; Haye, Bellew, Crolla, Quigg, Frampton, Luke Cambell, Groves, Degale, ricky burns, carl frock, brook and khan and others. Then i remember when Frank Warren announced his deal with BT in 2016 or 2017 and that was exciting, and his first few cards were exciting with Smith williams 1&2, warrington Selby etc and gervonta davis vs walsh. Then in that time you would have all the PBC fights on the box nation app like Canelo GGG, jacobs GGG, Canelo vs khan/smith/chavez to watch rather than there being no broadcaster now or having to pay like £8 to watch on fiteTV, and then in 2017/18 sky used to pick up some showtime cards with tank davis, broner vs mikey garcia and charlo vs lubin, wilder ortiz etc, we also had the world boxing super series which for when it started it was something news and exciting and saw some good domestic fights like groves cox, groves eubank and groves smith etc,
Now it just feels different, like i said maybe its because I'm a bit older and changed a bit and not as hardcore as i once was, but all those sky headliners from that era have pretty much retired, on DAZN we see some great cards but just not as many world title / big fights as we used to see on sky when matchroom were there, on Sky now they will no doubt have 1 or 2 big fights on PPV with a eubank fight and whatever kell brook does, but apart from that there isn't much to get excited about on sky these days, the world boxing super series seems to have run its course, BT/Frank warren put on terrible cards and only have Fury who will fight twice a year max, same with AJ now, we dont get to see all the PBC cards on uk TV anymore, even in USA there's big fights but not as many as there could be, i just think 2016-2020 was way better than the last couple of years.

I’m still in my 20’s so can’t go much further back than 2010ish but it certainly was a good era. Felt like there were good shows on Sky monthly. Think we’re about to go through a mediocre period.

it went downhill when Hearn got the dazn deal and conquering America became his priority.

There was a great period of regular big world title fights in the UK before that

A lot of the names you mentioned had big personalities and could sell fights. Yes there is a talented crop of new fighters coming through but they need to have personality outside of the ring too.

Yeah good days for sure , maybe with sponsorship deals and PR the boxers are less willing to show their personalty.

Not really, no. It seems that you are obsessed with Sky, for some reason.

Sky and Matchroom performed heist after heist on the PPV mugs time after time. 2022 is a lot better as we have a clearer landscape.

Some PPV merchants have gone, some hare going, and some have been exposed.

Maybe a little bit since it was the golden age of British boxing.

read it again, it wasn't just sky, i mentioned when warren first announced his BT deal, which had several intriguing cards as well.

Most of it was about Sky.

You said Sky had “big PPV fights”. Aside from Joshua against Fury’s inactive, old and sloppy seconds in W. Klitschko, what are the other big PPV cards? I’m genuinely struggling.

Matchroom and competitive undercards? You’re definitely taking the **** now. Most of the main events were not close to being 50-50 never mind the undercards being competitive. The only low competitive undercards were of low quality and nothing riding on them.

    You’ve been duped.
