Is it okay to ask if Mendoza still posts here? Reading old threads, his opinions and style reminded me of a poster from the old CBZ, CyberBoxingZone - posting as Dr Z - did he ever post around these parts?

But fights from 1906 or 1915 were not filmed in high definition, in opposite to the videos on Youtube. So you really doesn't know about what you speak.

 

I have not seen any poster where was titles Fitzsimmons last/ retirement or Goodbye fight yet. And you only named one newspaper, but I think without any link.

In 1994 was he in Super-Middleweight on place 9, because of his fight against Eubanks.
So he was for at least half of the decade in the top 10, partly top 5. But I have quoted you, where you stated he was never rated in Light-Heavyweight. This is just not true (as Duran Williams was a mandadorty defence). So about 7 of his world title fights were against world class boxers, in total in were 9 of these.
There is also no proof that Maske is not taller than Foster, as Boxrec is here not exact (often).

 

It doesn't change that he lost to Johnson and won over Fitzsimmons. So he had for the first far more reason, but to victims are boxers in general more (very) generous and don't bring up bad blood, if no issues were before.
I think even Ali spoke respectfull about Terrell and Frazier, after his career, so does Holyfield about Tyson and vice versa now.
So it only make sense, if there was a hint for it and it was suspicious (what it is).

So doping wasn’t already well known in 1908 but in 1911 Jeffries himself made the claim of being doped.

Doping goes back to ancient times - unfortunately dopiness has existed for all man’s history.

Jeffries said terrible things about Johnson - NOT a good sport. The actual good sports of the day saw NO reason for Jeffries to refuse defending his title against Jack. Jeffries ignored them, maintaining the colour line - NOT a good sport. Jeffries loses to Johnson, invents an excuse for losing which would take credit from Jack’s victory - NOT a good sport.

Old Fitz, 11/12 years older and notably smaller than young Jeff gives Jeffries a serious beating in less than 8 rounds - EMBARRASSING.

Jeff reaches for loaded gloves/plaster of Paris excuse - NOT a good sport.

I've been working on basketball videos during last 5 years.

Most fights were filmed in high quality, as analog original tapes can give us excellent quality. The only reason why most of them look not so good is because we have copies of copies.

I still fail ti understand what it changes when it comes to Sam Langford punching technique. Improving quality of the video won't change his techique at all

For the record ,before that I got banned for matching the best white world champions in each division against the best black champions,something which Peter Wilson the old boxing writer for the Daily Mirror did in his book "More Ringside Seats".Wilson was certainly no racist and hero worshipped Joe Louis.I'm no racist either and have several close Asian and black friends.

Jeffries behaved disgracefully towards Johnson calling him the N word many times,referring to him as a black skunk and ****,he refused to shake his hand before the fight and later made excuses for his defeat.
Jeffries refused to defend his title against Johnson or any other black challenger.
That is not a Gentleman.It is a racist arse hole.
