No, punches are not quicker, it`s not like legs running in a race, fighters now don`t have quicker hands than Ray Leonard.

Ruiz had a beer belly and beat the musclebound AJ and he has quicker hands, his belly was bigger than most heavyweight champs from the past, look at Norton`s stomach, Tyson was crazily jacked at 5'10 and 220 pounds.

You cannot take out specific examples to compare the masses.

Athletes in every sport are getting faster, stronger, better athletically. And all the records out there show that

Minter was a racist and I read under an interview he did shown on youtube someone reply saying Minter was at te Benn v Watson fight in 1989 and got into an arguement with a guy because so woman he was interested in didn`t want to know and fancied this other guy, when Minter had a go at him the guy threatened him and to quote "his arse fell out of bed" when the guy shouted at him.

Did I say they have faster hands, no.
I said athletes are better athletes now than they used be. FACT

This advancement is always a benefit. A lot of boxers take far more shortcuts now than they used to. They can lose the weight easier and faster and get in shape easier which means less time spent perfecting their craft.

Training methods have improved, knowledge is better, more experience, better technology and better gear in regards to fitness. The boxing side of things and technical stance is more debatable. But physically there is no ifs or buts, athletes are improving generation upon generation and the facts back that up

I can see with my own eyes, that Usyk is quicker than Liston! What does this prove about the general quickness of the two eras? Absolutely nothing, of course!

The bottom line is regardless of what you are trying to claim Mark's era are simply better fighters than the current overall.

    Dropping thru the divisions -

    Larry Holmes
    Michael Spinks
    Marvin Hagler
    Thomas Hearns
    Sugar Ray Leonard
    Aaron Pryor
    Alexis Arguello
    Hector Camacho
    Salvador Sanchez
    Wilfredo Gomez
    Chandler/Pintor

Virtually all of these guys were at some segment of their prime at once. It's a disgusting array of greatness.

    Hi Eddie.
So, I met Minter and Buchanan at a charity event in North London, many, many, years ago, I suppose because of the circumstances they were both on their best behaviour and it was late morning, too early to get on the booze maybe.
As for Buchanan, it came across as he felt somewhat undervalued by the british media, and the public for that matter, and he may be correct it that assumption, his was a big undertaking, going abroad into the heat of Panama, fighting a very good champion in what was his backyard effectively, like a lot of achievement's it takes the passing of time to fully grasp what the person took on.
I also met Minter in Vegas, went there with some friends to see his win over Antourfermo, ha threw a party on a boat !! in the lobby of Caesars Palace, had my photo done with him, yea at that stage, he was a ok guy, but as we know Eddie the demon drink has ruined many a lovely person , shame.... styay safe buddy.

And if you read my posts you will see that I said boxers are better from that era. But it's not down to boxers being fitter then than they are now, cos they aint

I'm not convinced the current guys are fitter in real world boxing terms.

Guys from the 40's were just fighting so often and incredibly boxing fit. I don't care about outside the ring it's what they bring to the table inside it.

Take a guy like Frazier. Woeful athlete, terrible. flat out benching a cotton bud. Yet as a boxer the guy was an absolute machine. He went hard all night and still hit damn hard and often at the end of a 15 rounder. One of the greatest heavyweights ever.

Sanchez could have fought 20 rounds, Pedroza, Monzon, Moore. Dudes were boxing fit.

Those guys were a good 23/30+ lbs or in some cases 60 lbs lighter than today's hws, if u don't understand how that can affect stamina then there is no point.

Great era, sure, greatest of all time?? The 30's had Ross, Armstrong, Tony Canzoneri, Kid Berg, Kid Chocolate, Battling Battalino, Panama Al Brown, Benny Lynch, and other great fighters. I really can not seeing the 30's batch being top.

Why on earth are you talking heavyweights? The thread isn't about heavyweights and the conversation between you and i most certainly isn't heavyweight orientated. The math? Sanchez and Pedroza are about 150 pounds lighter than Fury and 110 or more lighter than Joshua.

We are talking boxing across the board obviously. No idea why you thought i was comparing the stamina of those guys to the stamina of as modern heavyweight. What the heck.
