How so, Barff? No offence was intended apart from where I felt it was deserved.

"You came across as a complete bell end (Helmut in German) and I can call you that seeing as how I am one myself."

You called yourself a bellend :D

As I say, all abuse thoroughly deserved. I sensechecked it with both wife and son and they both assured me I wasn't being harsh on myself.

You intended to call yourself a bellend? I thought you were calling him a bellend because you're german.

I don't know what that means but if it's good, I'm it.

I suspect it's not, though. Fair enough.

Yeah. It's no biggie. I just thought you were a bit aggressive and thought I'd comment as I had my Helmut to hand. That usually raises a smile.

Not least of all from me.

Regards yourself. And the fact that you have complimented a sense of humour is further proof (Werther proof?) to suggest that you're not really German.

Anyway, back on topic. I am very much of the mind that Tyson wins this. I wondered if it might be boyhood nostalgia and the awe I felt when Tyson came into the ring swaying my judgement.

So I watched a bit of Joe again. Baer, Schmeling II, Conn I. The Billy Conn fight really surprised me. I was expecting to see fleet feet and dazzling cunning but Billy just seemed to stand upright then lunge with punches. I couldn't help but think that the Tyson of my youth would have absolutely battered Billy and in very quick time. I can't understand what gave Joe so much trouble.

Joe was a much greater champion in his day than Mike was in his. That's a fact. But if they were to have fought each other, I can't see a good outcome for Joe.

I have said before in a previous thread that black boxers dominated the heavyweight scene once they were allowed to compete for the title until, quite frankly, they lost interest and moved to other sports that offered much more chance of reward without the pain. That so few of Joe's defences took in fighters from this demographic is, for me, a big minus point on his record.

And while Joe was the greater fighter in his era, I think Mike has a lot less trouble with Joe's opponents than Joe has with Mike's. Very different eras. Not saying Joe couldn't have adapted but I think his reign comes with an asterisk that he didn't answer all of the questions that could have been asked of him.

That Conn fight was a terrible look. I think you have to pick Tyson here for sure.

I would pick a prime Tyson to win but Joe Louis certainly could win.

Greynotsoold said it all with his post. A man that *actually* knows what he's talking about on this subject. I respect his opinion above all others in this forum. On boxing, of course!

It was indeed a superb post but I'm not sure @greynotsoold ever puts anything else down. He's outstanding.

But, as detailed and well presented as his post was, there is still much more to be said. This is not one of those fights where it's so clear cut that only one outcome can realistically be considered.

In presenting Joe's case, you'd do well to better Grey's effort. But it's perfectly possible that someone else who equally knows their boxing can have a different opinion. Don't totally dismiss the credentials of anyone who takes a different view.

Very well said, and thank you. That is just one way of looking at it, not necessarily even my opinion, and I am wrong all the time.

Did anyone else show evidence of seeing and exploiting it consistently before Douglas? If so, did they just lack other skills or attributes necessarily to capitalize on Tyson's weakness?
