I'm sure Golovkin gets ripped for this fight but what I saw was a strategy by Murata that was initially effective in that he had a very direct body strategy with a nice changeup to go up top. It looked to work well as long as his chin held up, which was about 5 rounds. Then his face broke and the fight was inevitable. Had he REALLY hurt GGG to the body it maybe could have went a different way but he sacrificed his face and was ready to go out on his shield. Mad respect to him.

Fun to watch but doesn't sway my opinion of GGG Canelo in any way. Canelo isn't going to let GGG freely tag his chin like that. It will be a good fight but GGG has slowed to a point where I think Canelo wins a fair decision.

@YCGS It depends, if Bivol breaks Canelo, Golovkin will knock Canelo out.

40 years old vs 31 years old, it's not a fair fight. You are physically and mentally a lot more a different person when you are 40 compared to your 31 year old self. Youth is very valuable and powerful.

Yeah fair point. That fight could of course change my mind depending on how it goes and it will be interesting to see what Bivol is able to do effectively against Canelo. Good post.

He looked vulnerable for about 2 rounds but then he turned it up

Could just be shaking off the cobb webs because it was all GGG after 4.

He is heavier on his feet, reacts to the punches more, and seemed to breathing harder than usual early.

However, those issues faded once he got in the groove.

I dont think he looked that vulnerable though against a more dynamic boxer we might see more holes

A 40 year old Marquez knocked out and ended the rivalry with Pacquaio. If GGG wants redemption he's gonna have to dig deep and willing to throw down.

    Yes dude,
    this part exactly .

It has been obvious since after the 1st fight that Canelo is Paquiao to GGG’s Márquez . He simply can not, will not win a decision vs Canelo…
    it is what it is.
He has to knock him out.

Losers whine about excuses , whilst winners find a way.

He's clearly faded on his prime, but I'd still give him a good chance of beating everyone not named Canelo.

Murata was the perfect opponent for Golovkin, a stand up fighter who comes straight at you with a so, so defense. I had it even after 4 rounds but Murata just couldn't continue to eat those heavy shots. I'll say this , I thought Golovkin looked as good as a 40 year old could look but against the current version of Canelo I can't see a path to victory.

He did look vulnerable in the early rounds. But that's to be expected when you've had 350 amateur fights and 44 pro ones fighting with a very aggressive style and are 40 y/o. He was well past his best long ago.

Here he is 25 years ago as a skinny teenager trading leather with a future Olympic gold medalist
