Watching the fight today the commentators were making out he was getting destroyed in the first few rounds when in reality Murata was giving absolutely everything just to be competitive. Yes, GGG did have to adjust and he is taking more shots as his lateral movement and footwork has slowed. I am still yet to see him seriously rocked from a headshot but he does now look vulnerable to the body. There's no doubt GGG is way past prime but he's still a force at middleweight and besides Canelo there's no one else I would make a clear favourite over him between 154 and 168.
This is spot on, Murata gave his 100% while Golovkin was pacing himself. That's why Golovkin kept getting stronger while Murata faded. There was just a different in class, I was hoping age caught up to Golovkin enough for Murata to pull it off but Golovkin hits harder, has better durability, is faster, and better technically. That being said, I think both Charlo and Andrade are tough fights for him. Hard to predict these fights.
Yes I agree they are tough fights but I favour GGG in both. Andrade is faded also (not as much as GGG but he's coming from a lower peak), and the way he struggled with Williams doesn't bode well for him. Charlo just hasn't done anything in his career that leads me to believe he could weather the storm that would come his way. But of course he's got the athleticism and chin so I think this would be the tougher fight of the 2.
The same as he would have a decade ago. Destroy him. I'd without hesitation pick Murata to beat Andrade senseless as well. GGG at 40, and declined, is still vastly better than most 20 year olds.
I agree that Andrade could get clipped badly and stopped. He didn't look good against Williams who isn't on the same level as GGG. Charlo looked better against Dereyvchenko than GGG did, but at the same time, styles make fights. Dereyvchenko isn't a huge puncher, and GGG just picks his shots so perfectly. One thing that is worrisome from Charlo's side is that he doesn't use the most head movement. Most of his defense is his guard, I think what gives GGG the most issues is fighters with great head movement like Canelo. If you stay stationary and just have your guard up, GGG will find angles to hit you.
GGG has to be favored both in skills and resume, he is also the only unified champ at 160lb. Andrade maybe more tricky style wise, but GGG is excellent at cutting off the ring and his jab would negate Andrade's offense. My opinion is Andrade would do well early, but it would be all GGG tell the end of the fight. Competitive but clear UD for GGG, maybe stops Andrade if he breaks him down enough. Charlo is a stronger closer to his prime fighter, with decent punch volume. Skill wise his the weaker than Andrade or GGG, and he would basically be a Murata 2.0. The only real question is who folds first. Would Charlo's youth and power take over GGG, or would GGG's better skills and great power punches finally break Charlo down? It would be a fun war. Assuming GGG digs down deep and isn't completely shot, I would see him edging out the fight for a decision. Really its all about how GGG handles age. As a pure boxer, I think his fundamentals are excellent and the overall best fighter at 160lb. Its just a question of how much longer his body keeps him at the top.
40 yr old Golovkin beats both Andrade and Charlo, probably by knockout. Charlo is chinny and appears to have regressed. Andrade is nothing special.
Golovkin blasts them both to bits. He viciously beat & knocked Murata out. Charlo and Andrade wouldn't want any of that smoke.
They'd both beat him and he knows it. Which is why he was completely uninterested in facing either of them at this stage of his career. He's on his last leg.
Both guys will beat him now and so would Chris Eubank Jr who even in the past would have had a good chance against.
