he will have to KO Canelo & be willing to get KO’d himself in the process. Márquez vs Paquiao 4 style.
Struggling to conjure up a thought of anyone taking as many shots as he did against GGG. Hope he’s alright, lots of folk of course including myself were shocked at how well he took a hammering and kept at him he was perpetual aggressive motion. In the RBR thread most thought he was actually etching the early rounds just through sheer brute action.
You’re talking as if you think that’s what amateur boxing is today. There was a period from about 1995-2005 where your description of the amateurs is closer to the truth. Even then it’s nonsensical to claim that you could fight two or three times a day and that it wasn’t as mentally demanding. Fighting regularly in tournaments is more mentally demanding than preparing months for a single bout. Have you ever boxed before? Headgear makes no difference other than cuts, and competitive boxers at any level can’t hold back their punches to the point that they are just taps. You could see guys getting stopped on any amateur card back then. Do you think guys like Golovkin and Beterbiev weren’t getting knockouts in the amateurs? For years now there has been no head gear, and fights are scored exactly the same as the pros.
Golovkin looked so slow, and he was wincing with every body shot. It was a great win for a 40 year old, but he’s done and should retire. It would be a real risk to fight Canelo again and I would give him credit for that, but it will be a cashing out payday and nothing else.
It almost looked like an exhibition match of two old retired warriors going at it, they didn’t look like athletes with their movement.
Canelo wouldnt go to Japan and fight in his opponents back yard on even terms , So comparison is anon starter
I wonder in this case how he himself thinks. Looking in from the outside Canelo's hooks and counters at 168 should be a terrifying concept seeing how easily slow and predictable Murata could land, especially to the body. Maybe he thinks he will be that much better for Canelo.
Murray is the only other guy that took a comparable beating to Murata. And to be honest I actually think GGG landed harder shots on Ryota. Murata is made out of basalt.
I think we are seeing, against Murata, the prototype of his fight plan vs Canelo. I think he is going to try rob Canelo of space and try light him up with a variety of short punches like he did with Murata. Notice how often GGG was throwing that 'skull compactor' punch against Murata? He tagged Canelo with that before and canelo complained about it like it was a foul. I think GGG has been studying tapes of his fights with Canelo and trying to figure out how to beat him. He's got to know that he's gotten slower. I've always loved GGG's skill at fighting at range but by now Canelo is noticably faster and more explosive. A ranged fight is dangerous for GGG. I think he's gonna turn #3 into a war in the trenches and force Canelo to fight at a pace that he doesn't like; to try and blow all his gaskets. Notice how much thicker GGG looked in his upper body than in previous fights. He looked like Dick frickin Tiger in there. Mark my words. #3 is gonna be world war 1. I dunno if he's got enough juice left at 40 to do it against a younger beefcake like Canelo, but it's going to be hell of fun to watch.
Agreed but Canelo is not 40 and has remained active over the last 20 months. Canelo is at the top of his prime and just a year away from starting to see the other side of the loop. This is prime time Big Red since late 2020. GGG might be older and slower but still gives Canelo more trouble than any of his last fights since Danny J
And it's not just the fights that puts miles on the clock. Training for more than 300 bouts is probably more aging for a fighter than the actual contests...
Canelo beat Murata easy with body shot inside 6,Canelo is more young and explosive than GGG at this stage and it show Canelo is a slow starter but can up his volume if the opponant is rushing him with counters. The third fight will be very interesting to watch for futur opponants of Canelo on how to beat him with jabs, angles and defence that GGG will bring but will come up short of beating him again im sure.
The only guys Clenelo dominated & stopped were Avni Yildirim and Rocky Fielding L-M-F-A-O. He more or less dominated the Smith fight but couldn't get the KO and Smith was drained to hell. All other fights were razor close and extremely competitive recently: Plant, Kovalev, BJS, Jacobs, GGG 1+2 Clenelo isn't a big puncher, he's breaking guys down. Murata can take a really good single punch. I'm pretty sure Murata would have gone the distance with Clenelo. He's not the guy you can break down with relatively pillow fists like Clenelo has. Saying that...i'm not a huge GGG fan but he's definitely hitting harder than Clenelo (one punch KO power).
