It's only second week of April, and we have 2 genuine contender for fight of the year 2022. Out of these 2, which one do you think is better? Personally, my pick is Woods vs Conlan but then Fundora vs Lubin is fresher with bigger audience since the fight was in US.
Wood vs Conlan was straight out of a Rocky movie. Underdog gets knocked down early on, rallies back in the mid rounds but still down on the cards, then gets a final round KO through the ropes
The think I like is that both fights are at similar level. Although Woods is a title holder , I thought he is the weaker compare to the others, and Fundora Lubin are just one small rank below the champions.
Good shout it was an awesome fight especially for Aussie boxing it made watching the **** show of SBW v Barry Hall worth it.
My shortlist: Leigh Wood-Mick Conlan Jordan Gill-Karim Guerfi Fernando Martinez vs Jerwin Ancajas Jessie Rodriguez v Carlos Cuadras Sebastien Fundora vs Erikson Lubin
It really did have pretty much everything … except maybe a patent pending Adrien Broner dry butt hump - thankfully.
That flew under my radar. Really enjoyed that one its such a well fought fight its gorgeous. Cheers mate.
But for Wood Vs Conlan, this would have had a great shot at FOTY. Gill was in some serious trouble at several points and apparently had burst ear drums to both ears which would have played havoc with his equilibrium, add to that a nasty eye injury as well and that was a real gutsy display. Kudos to Caldwell as well for giving some great corner advice and encouragement, particularly when Gill was countering and covering up in the corner.
This one is still flying under the radar. I think Woods vs Conlan is better but this should be in the KOTY discussion or ROTY discussion. I wasn't as jazzed with Fundora vs Lubin, it was just good but didn't really have as good of a narrative arc.
