Power or no power that's a tough combo to land. Have to get it in quick! Much easier against a stationary opponent though.
It was a strange Golovkin. In the early rounds he looked stiff and was pushing punches. Inactivity? Lack of confidence? In the middle rounds he got some of that fluidity back. His legs still looked shot throughout.
Unfortunately, GGG has slowed dramatically. Murata was basically a punching bag. Even so, I still had the fight even after 4 or 5 rounds. I do not think Gennady has enough left in the tank to beat the top fighters at 160. He is just too slow now.
He's still a fun and dangerous fighter when a guy is standing in front of him. But it looks like he has lost his legs, so I think a world class boxer would probably be able to avoid him and possibly win a surprisingly wide decision.
Inactivity. Age is definitely showing with his legs. I really think the announcers were going overboard with Golovkin being hurt by the body shots. This version of Golovkin will have to walk through fire to win fights, which he has shown he will do.
One positive trait that Golovkin still has is his presence to step on the gas after a break from the ref. Whether it be a low blow or the ref breaking up a clinch, GGG usually is first to the punch and does it VIOLENTLY. It's crazy how he is such a sportsman during the break but goes straight to trying to kill you afterwards.
Like I've been telling you guys, Murata is tough as old boots. Even as an amateur his physical strength and toughness stood out and he was extremely difficult to discourage and keep off of you back then too. But that was just a crazy display of toughness and durability we saw from him the other night because as as old and way past prime as GGG is now he ate a ton of seriously heavy thudding shots there and you can clearly see and hear how heavy and hurtful they were. Taking that many clean hits from a puncher with as crazy heavy hands as GGG will take years off your career.
Golovkin really impressed to be honest. Rounds 1, 2 and 3 were exactly what I thought I'd see from him. Rounds 4 onwards I did not see coming at all.
Is GGG really an ATG puncher though. I rate him as a very good puncher, but not an ATG puncher. I recall for example, Lemieux was noticeably bigger hitter in their fight. Golovkin wanted no parts of a fair punch for punch exchange with David.
Absolutely. Do you know how many divisions you have to go up and down to find a puncher with the kind of one shot explosive KO power as Lemieux. In his prime he was one of the top 5 most deadly one punch KO artists in the game, and I mean in both hands. GGG's power is different. More a sickeningly heavy handed power like Beterbiev. I would equate their power to someone swinging a big log at your head, whereas, Lemieux's was more snap and torque. This content is protected
