Good post and spot on. It's like Taylor v Serrano and Marshall v Shields, people are interested because they are good match ups, not because it's PC to like it.

Most of the fights including British females on these so called top cards seem to be against Bec Connolly she must have been stretched across about 6 weights by now.

Biggest elephant in the room is she’s 31 years of age and signed to Bob Arun who a couple of months ago literally said nobody cares about womens boxing. Nobody watches it.

so she will not be promoted properly by the time she resides or gets out of her contract she will be 33.

there is a large population that does not accept womens boxing until there is a girl that looks like Skye Nicholson and punches like Savannah Marshall but talks like McGregor that’s when there will be a major cross over star. Womens boxing will continue to grow but until a girl bursts on the scene similar to Ronda Rousey with a promoter that actually promotes there will not be a major star.


For me the most intriguing women currently is Alicia Baumgartner.

 

I know they do jump around weights something awful, but all do do with lack of depth. They should have less weight classes until their is more depth.

 

You realise that Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano are about to sell out Maddison square garden. One of the meccas of boxing. It’s historic.

Marshall for me is a seriously good boxer. If she wins the shields fight she is a star but needs someone to shout it from the rooftops. She also has next to no challenges due to weight outside of shields. Which will penalise her


She’s one that would benefit from a trilogy of fights like fury wilder. If she smashes shields it will initially help her but she needs a rematch to buy time to have a contender be built up

 

She’s hot, can box and has always been friendly when we have seen her in the Stewart Hotel before her early career fights in the garden.

 

Mayer looks to be one of the better female boxer's I think she has the skill and the youth to beat the winner of Taylor Serrano.
Lets face it the really is only a handful of female boxer's who can actually fight.

 

That is fair enough regards Katie and Amanda. I am though referencing bums on seats over here. I've been outside MSG a few times but never inside. Looks huge from the street. I hope they do indeed sell it out. Possibly though a fight too far for KT.

Regards Marshall, I can see her re-matching Shields over in America (fairs fair imo), I think fight #1 will generate more interest stateside than originally anticipated. Both fighters need each other, there is no one else to challenge them right now. On this, we totally agree.

Serrano (I think) and Marshall win.

 

If she beats Shields which she appears capable of doing in some style, Marshall could and should be a UK superstar up there with Raducanu, and eg Jessica Ennis of a few years ago, Sports Personality of the year candidate and she'll be headline news in the USA as the woman who humbled Shields. She's a brilliant flowing boxer who brings the unique jeopardy of exciting stoppages to her fights. She's attractive enough (to my eyes) and since she's got over her shyness, comes across as very likeable, down to earth and funny.

exactly, the talent pool is to small to take the sport seriously. You can only cherish the good fights you get between seasoned Olympians and ignore the noise in between.

Marshall beating Clarissa Shield's is no comparison to what Emma Raducanu did at the US open.

 

I wouldn't say no comparison. I largely agree with you: the pool of talent in women's boxing is absolutely tiny compared to women's tennis; also we've been used to having women tennis stars for a century- going back to Suzanne Lenglen. And Raducanu if she can prove that the US Open wasn't a lone peak is a global marketing dream which Marshall obviously isn't (although I find her just as charming as Raducanu...) A few points on the other side: If Savannah beats Claressa in style she will have a good argument for being the top pound for pound woman boxer and Raducanu has a long way to go to achieve such pre-eminence; I think Savannah is comparably skilled to Raducanu; the upcoming fight promises at least as dramatic a spectacle as Raducanu's triumph; Claressa has been as overwhelmingly dominant (considered unbeatable by many) in her field as (until recently) Serena Williams- beating her will be like beating peak Serena which won't happen for Raducanu.

 

In terms of difficulty and probability of winning, it is incomparable. What Raduncanu did at the US open will probably never be surpassed again and whatever she goes on to do is totally irrelevant to the comparison. You are talking about a wildcard entrant who had not even been on the WTA tour obliterating an entire cast of seasoned top ranked players in a globally developed professional sport from qualifying. Marshall beating Shields is a good achievement however the sport is in it's infancy, there are very few professional fighters and the talent pool is the size of a puddle. Marshall v Shields has largely been manufactured by the promoters and is pretty much the only competitive fight in the division.
