Wasnt this before Floyd ever fought above 140? Or even 135?

Vic Darchinyan called out Winky too. Let that sink in.

He was just talking trash, and it's no problem to criticize him for that. But Winky was already at 160; I never thought they were going to fight. He certainly didn't "duck" him because it never was realistic that he would fight a guy that size.

    Fact check:

    Mayweather/Winky call out was 2005.

Darchinyan called out Jermain Taylor, not Winky.

Winky agreed to fight Floyd at 154 and an 8 pound rehydration clause... Far beyond trash talking.

He called out Winky. He made that choice to put it out there. Not to mention, he fought Oscar and Canelo at JrMW. So....???

Yes, he called out Winky and Winky called his bluff. No doubt.

But no one ever should have expected that fight to happen. I certainly did not. Mayweather fought smaller guys moving up in weight but never someone who campaigned at 160 for years the way Winky did or even went up to 170 for Hopkins. Totally different size of dude.

FTR, I think Winky would have beaten him in an awful fight. Assuming Winky could still have made 154 and dealt with the rehydration clause. Mind you, Winky at one point said he would go down to 147 for ODLH. He also had a tendency to be unrealistic. ...

I'm with you there. It was posturing from floyd, nothing more. Just goes to show 'call outs' mean nothing in boxing.

Lmao Floyd had no business fighting at LMW. But he's beaten 3 top 20 LMW ATG fighters.

Yep. Just like all the BS that ODLH talked over the years. These guys do that to keep themselves in the news, and obviously both Hoya and Floyd were exquisitely talented self-promoters.

He never beat any of the career 154+ guys. Imagine Floyd fighting Mike McCallum or Roy Jones. It's just not a realistic expectation.

Really, his best all-time matchups would be at 135 or maybe 140. Mayweather vs Duran at 135 would be the fight I'd like to see him in most.

SRL Vs. Floyd is an even more intriguing matchup. Floyd would get stopped by SRL. He'd lose a fair decision to Duran.

SRL is too big for him. Same as Hearns. That's why I don't think 147 is his best class. Rather see him at LW where he was strong and had punching power.

Duran would apply immense pressure, but of course Mayweather was quicker and also would have a six-inch reach advantage. Would be a fascinating and tense fight.

You underestimate Floyd's strength. Floyd was incredibly physically strong at 147. Stronger than at 135/140. He tossed Mosley, a big and strong welter, around like a rag doll in the clinches. For example, look at Pac. Pac was very weak physically. He was constantly literally bouncing back from even blocked punches. When bodies would collide, Pac was sent flying back. He was like a damn pinball.

Floyd wasn't featherfisted as people say. He was a good puncher at 147, just not a big puncher.

But again, he's beaten 3 top 20 ATG LMW fighters, so the notion he has no business there is absolutely ridiculous.
