Absolutely. This would be a great fight. Louis is #2 and Holmes is #3 on my list. Their styles are different and they are evenly matched. Very interesting and competitive fight.
Holmes on points for me, beating him with the jab the main weapon in his bag. Holmes has a great chin, he survived thunder bolts from Shavers, but he's in serious trouble if Louis has him that hurt. Not sure Joe ever faced an Holmes type, nearest one s are probably Charles and Schmeling. He'd be hard pressed to beat Larry imo.
Hard fight for both of them I think. When you have two such outlier talents its hard to predict how their styles would mesh.
Definitely an hard grueling fight. Both have that ATG quality of course, would love to see this fight in fantasy land!
Louis always has a shot. Holmes could definitely get caught by the right hand, especially later in the fight. Shavers & Snipes weren’t exactly slick but they both caught Holmes clean. I think he might get dropped but I think Holmes would survive and win a decision. He might even drop Louis once.
Louis in a very close fight. Louis had an extremely under rated jab. And his right hand could have Larry in serious trouble. Larry was quite hittable.
I am in 100% agreement. I give it maybe 55/45 in Larry's favor. Basically, if he can avoid getting his head knocked off, he can win, but there's a real chance that happens.
Louis is the only guy I think would not just beat Larry but quite possibly stop him. A surprise right hand drops Louis for a flash knockdown, but he poleaxes Larry in the 7th. Larry gets up and manages to make the round, though very dizzy, and starts dominating with the jab and uppercut for a few rounds after. In the 11th Louis catches up to him, knocks him down twice and the fight is stopped. It happens so fast the announcers are astounded, the power in Louis' combinations win the fight.
People keep saying what if Louis caught Holmes with the right hand, but Holmes was never stopped in his prime and had amazing recuperative powers. Louis was also decked quite a few times in his career by lesser fighters aswell, and was actually knocked out in his prime. Schmeling hit Louis repeatedly with the right hand, and knocked him out in their first meeting. What if Holmes kept landing the right like Schmeling did ? I could easily just say that aswell. I'm going with Holmes by decision, Louis is too static. And wouldn't get past the 82 inch reach of Larry Holmes.
Louis had a great jab and it is certainly possible that he could use it to neutralize the Holmes jab. If that happens and Louis is able to jab his way in close to Holmes, Larry will have problems because he doesn't have the short range arsenal of Louis.
