I guess tng maybe, but we didn't use that terminology back then. No bounce at all but we only paused for a split second at the bottom.

Never really used a formal program. In the stretch when I got up to 330, we would warm up (15x135, 10x185), then start with 225, and increase 20-30lbs per set, until we could only get up 2 or 3, and try to increase the weight each week. Also did incline dumbbells (sets of 8-10) and very heavy weighted dips. Tons of tricep work too (skull-crushers, rope pushdowns, and reverse grip pushdowns, and close-grip benching).

    Spot on.

Diaz used the Stair Master for most of his conditioning work. Anyone who has used one will agree how brutal they are.

You need an aerobic base, but it doesn’t have to be running. It’s not the be all and end all. Wlad had immense cardio and output for his size, and he dropped roadwork for swimming many years ago.

I read somewhere that Jim Jeffries daily routine was a 14 mile run 2 hours of jumping rope 30 minutes of bag work and like 12 rounds of hard sparring every day in camp...not sure if it’s true or not but damn

His roadwork was surprisingly modern, a mix of walking, jogging and sprinting, essentially intervals.

Oh really? That’s pretty cool ,That just seems like a crazy amount of roadwork especially considering his size and the available footwear

Love seeing the old photos of guys doing roadwork in wool sweaters and leather boots. Marathon great Emil Zatopek used to train in his army issued boots.

Makes me feel like a real p@ssy for buying tricked out running shoes.

Bump because the first few pages I’ve read so far are quality. I’d like to say, yeah I’d believe Wlad and Evander are guaranteed over 3 plates, not sure by how much. Look at the guys who bench 315 at your gym FFS. Lol it’s really not an otherworldly feat especially for a full time athlete on PEDs.

I've seen plenty of dudes in the gym put up 315. They were all bigger dudes (at least 180lbs), but they weren't elite athletes. Just guys who lifted regularly for years.

    Why's that so impressive?

Over 400 is impressive. 315 is pretty normal for a bigger guy who lifts consistently.

A few boxers appeared in the "Superstars" athletic competitions across multiple decades, so we actually have an okay-ish idea of how they performed at generic track and weight lifting events. Unfortunately, the records online aren't very detailed, so that's a potential resource we only have pieces of.
