For me this is Khan's best performance of his career, he looked great in the early going. And took some big shots in the later rounds without going down, pretty impressive for a guy who's known to have a weak chin.

    Usyk vs Breidis.

Gave Usyk rounds 2,3,5,7,8,9,10 and 11. So had it 8-4

But the fight was so competitive. Usyk had the advantage in volume. He also had a slight edge in accuracy, timing and cardio. Breidis was the stronger man and at times looked to physically overwhelm Usyk, but Usyk managed to stay a step ahead all fight.

This was such a close fight and fought at such a high skill level. Breidis gave it his all and fought the fight of his life, but he did it against Usyk and ultimately it cost him 116-112 on my card.

    Julian Letterlough vs Richard Hall

I didn't bother scoring this one as it only lasted 2 rounds, both men were down in the 1st round with left hands. The difference was Letterlough didn't recover from his knockdown, and as round 2 begun Letterlough was still shaken from the 1st round. And he was wobbled again early in round 2, Hall followed with a barrage of unanswered punches, and the referee rightly stops the fight.

Very entertaining 1st round and a short sweet fight that was worth watching.

    Usyk vs Gassiev.

This performance was so dominant it was anticlimactic.

The final of the tourney and it should have been his toughest challenge, but Gassiev bought nothing to the table. Breidis came close, Gassiev was just utterly schooled.

And when you see how the careers of Breidis and Gassiev went after this, it's clear to see why.

    12-0 domination

    Hiroyuki Yoshino vs Crazy Kim

    1 Kim 10-8 knockdown
    2 Kim
    3 Yoshino 10-8 knockdown
    4 4th round missing
    5 Kim
    6 Yoshino
    7 Yoshino 10-8 knockdown
    8 Yoshino
    9 Yoshino 10-8 knockdown
    10 Yoshino winner by KO

This fight was absolutely incredible, maybe even better than Ward vs Augustus which won the FOTY that year. I recommend @Jel @scartissue to watch this, if you haven't ever seen it before crazy back and forth action.

Garza vs Ishy should have been the FOTY in 99 not Tapia vs Ayala I or Tate vs Sosa.

    Rodolfo Gonzalez vs Andy Ganigan

    1 Ganigan
    2 Ganigan
    3 Ganigan scores a knockdown 10-8
    4 Ganigan
    5 Ganigan
6 Gonzalez scores two knockdowns 10-7
    7 Gonzalez scores a knockdown 10-8
8 Even 9-9 Gonzalez had a point deducted for a lowblow
    9 Gonzalez
    10 Gonzalez

    93-92 Gonzalez

So this was a very fun fight to watch and score, Ganigan swept the first 5 rounds quite clearly. He was the effective aggressor landed the better punches, and he had the better ring generalship forcing Gonzalez to move the way he wanted him to.

Ganigan with 5 rounds in the bank and a knockdown, it seemed like a mountain to climb for Gonzalez. But in the 6th round Ganigan walked into two left hooks fell into the corner, and from that point on the fight totally turned around.

Gonzalez was now the aggressor scored 3 knockdowns, and landed some really hurtful punches on Ganigan. The 8th Gonzalez clearly won the round, but he had a point taken away for a low blow. And i think it was the right call, Gonzalez had thrown quite a few low ones throughout the fight, but with the point taken you have to make it a 9-9 round.

The last 2 rounds Gonzalez went back to fighting on the backfoot, but this time unlike the first 5 rounds. He was still landing the better punches whilst being on the backfoot, the 10th round Ganigan had a good start to the round. And came out as the aggressor and landed a solid left hand, but Gonzalez was able to quite clearly win the 2nd half of the round, landing some solid straight right hands and left hooks. So Gonzalez edged that round quite clearly, even though it was Ganigan's best round since the 5th.

Overall it was a razor thin close fight with all the knockdowns and the point deduction, but this fight was very entertaining and worth watching, but this was truly was a fight of two halves.

Too bad the ‘El Gato’ twins — the lightweight Rudolpho Gonzalezes — missed overlapping by four years.

Sal, when you posted this, I penciled it in to score - despite your warning - because I always wanted to see this one. Man, you didn't exaggerate at all. This was woeful. But here we go:

Nino Benvenuti v Luis Rodriguez (middleweight title) 5 point must scoring in effect

    Round 1: 5-4 Nino
    Round 2: 5-4 Nino
    Round 3: 5-4 Luis
    Round 4: 5-5 Even
    Round 5: 5-4 Luis
    Round 6: 5-4 Luis
    Round 7: 5-4 Luis
Round 8: 5-5 Even (I wrote 'mauling' on my card)
    Round 9: 5-5 Even
    Round 10: 5-4 Luis
    Round 11: Nino KOs Luis

Total through 10 completed rounds: 48-45 Rodriguez (actual scores unknown but all 3 officials were Italian, so I wouldn't rate Luis' chances very good about being ahead on points)

After 10 rounds - and knowing the result - I said to myself, "Thank God I don't have to score another round." Nino Benvenuti is a horrible fighter to watch. He is very strong, but a mauling/clinching fighter. He was cut over his left eye and at the top of the bridge of the nose, but he caused those himself with his constant mauling. Rodriguez was clearly trying to keep the fight at range where he could use the jab and had varying success with the overhand right (he used it well in the 6th but sporadically afterwards), but in would come Nino with another mauling clinch. Luis would use that time to body punch and he was always trying to work but Nino's style played havoc with any attempt at making this an entertaining fight. Absolutely dreadful. I do know Ring rated the first Griffith-Benvenuti fight as Fight of the Year, so perhaps I'm being rough on Nino. Maybe it was just a clash of styles. It certainly wasn't Clash of the Titans, I'll tell you that.
