Probably because Mayweather is 40 odd and a welterweight.... And golovkin is 40 and a middleweight. If they were same weight and all at peak gvodzyk isn't better than either
I never said Gvozdyk was the best p4p fighter that Canelo fought. I actually said he wasn't. But Gvozdyk is literally better than a prime Mayweather or Golovkin. Especially Mayweather. He knocks out Mayweather 100 times out of 100.
What you mean is that Gvozdyk beats Floyd — were weight limits removed and men four divisions apart allowed to meet — due to being greatly bigger (Mayweather came from 130 lb and maxed out at 154 lb). That's not the same as being "better", even if you add a "literally" to denote a straight H2H sense and not a P4P theoretical sense. Gvozdyk isn't vaguely close to being "better" than Mayweather. It's a prosaic observation, by the way. 175 lb is, after all, the heaviest Canelo's fought at, and his only prior opponent at the weight was a faded Kovalev. Gvozdyk has great natural size over the best guys Canelo's faced (no, Callum Smith does not fall into that category).
p4p is theoretical. H2H is a literal concept. Tyson Fury is the best fighter on the planet and that's just that. I have Usyk as best p4p and if he beats Fury he takes hold of both statuses. At the end of the day two guys get in the ring. One is better than the other. p4p is a neat concept in theory, but has no practical application.
@tinman Boxing is a craft, you goofball. It's not brawling on the pier. You don't get to call yourself "better" just by being thirty pounds heavier.
You just masterfully debunked the purely theoretical concept of the p4p idea, it simply can’t be proven, it really is just a matter of fan opinion
I'll say this for your post, though; This is correct, even if your reasons for saying as much (heavyweights = biggest = best) are misguided.
Floyd Mayweather's vast superiority over Oleksandr Gvozdyk based on breadth of professional skillset and quality of professional body of work is hardly theoretical. Some things are just self-evident.
Look, size matters in boxing. That's why we have weight classes because it is a determining factor. Who are you more afraid of, tiny Rodrigo or big LeRoy who is 6'5" with a size 17 shoe?
I would heavily agree that Mayweather is more skilful than Gvozdyk, but there is no factual evidence on the matter, that is no more than my opinion based off of what I’ve seen
Oh, good grief. I guess there's "no factual evidence" that Roberto Durán is more skilful than Tommy Karpency, either. The 'it's all subjective' line of reasoning has its limits, man.
