In fairness if he won that fight then that would be impressive. He isn’t going near him or anyone of note though. Hearn will feed him past it opponents with a semblance of name recognition
Good entertaining and inproving fighter but still very flawed. Matchroom obviously carefully matchmaking so far and looks like this will continue-got to get boring at some point.
Is he past British level? I used to give him the benefit of the doubt but at this point I've no idea what he wants from boxing. Is he in it for the money or the glory? If he's all about the dough then fair play to the lad no shame in that but if it's titles that he wants, then he seriously needs to reconsider the path that he's currently on. One thing I like about him though is the love and respect that he has for his father. When I sometimes hear how children talk to their parents.. Fook me. Totally off topic I know.
Eddie Hearn knows full well that Conor Benn cannot defeat Avanesyan. That's why we never get to see that fight. Unfortunately. It would otherwise give us many answers.
True, but easier to respect your father when he is a multi-millionaire, has enormous influence over the mobility of your career and is as hard as nails. He would be stacking shelves in Lidl with the highlight of his day being his *** break if he wasn't Nigel Benn's son.
I think hes on something. Which makes him a dangerous guy. Imo you rarely see guys going from struggling to put away the french kid to smashing up over the hill well experienced pro,s in the space of a couple of years. Hes improved everything but nothings really nearly as dramatic as his power improvement. He still makes mistakes. Hes still a bit raw. But these guys hes smashing...with their experience etc should be lasting longer against him. The power is the one big stand out difference...that they cant deal with and yet the unknown french kid could. It really makes you question the theory of your born with power or your not. You see loads of british fighters that just seem to stay the same level if power throughout their careers. Somehow tho benns been able to completely transform his power from struggling to keep an unknown french kid off him...to really smacking up well seasoned over the hill pro,s all in a few years. Somethings not quite right for me. That being said...i think hes decent. Thought he had half decent potential from the start. Works hard....exciting....up for it....not really alot not to like purely as a fighter in a boxing ring.
I would like to see Benn fight Josh Taylor. The styles should make a good fight. Taylor looked bad against against Catterall but seemingly was struggling at the weight and now needs to prove once he moves up that it was just an off night. If Benn manages to win then he will gain huge credit, and if he loses which is to be expected he can come again as it’s not the end of the world daring to be great against a highly rated domestic Champion but falling short. Taylor is well known now too so can’t use the Avanesyan argument that it’s a low reward fight.
Do you want Conor Benn to get seriously hurt ? Hearn mentioned Mikey Garcia and Adrian Broner. It would make sense as they are big names in the USA, and he would beat both of those guys who aren’t hungry anymore and only there for the pay cheque. Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman would knock Benn out though. Hearn said any of these 4 opponents would sell the O2 out, which isn’t true at all. Apparently Benn was supposed to fight Maurice Hooker this weekend but he got injured. Anyone know if this is true or not ? That would have been a great step-up. Hooker isn’t bad and would have been a legitimate test for sure.
Constantly improving, entertaining and explosive. That’s what I think. He clearly lives the life and has put a load of graft in the gym with Sims, you have to respect that. Time to see him in with an active live dog that brings there own threats now though.
He probably spent money on the elite level "sports nutrition" aka "mexican beef" aka "wild boar". As he muscled up a fair bit. I'd rate benn if he was fighting domestic/European lions (win or lose). Right now it's all just big talk and OAPs.
