Only ppl that never fought say/think that, “going light” will only give you bad habits, between fights “touch sparring” can be a useful tool to stay in shape but before fights it has to be all out sparring, otherwise you won’t be ready for an opponent that comes full blast to knock you out.
At the same time you could argue James Toney was a beast of a fighter thanks to all this sparring, despite having a solid disregard for his physical condition. Which is the most optimale for a fighter ? Who knows
