Who would find it funny if Fury got chinned Saturday night?

Are you referring to Fury possibly beating the ATG's? He is unique for a big boxer that can move for 12 rounds. Very difficult guy to pin down.

 

yes, thats what im referring to. how anyone who understands boxing can think that he would beat some atg heavys, based on what they can see and what hes done, is just crazy to me. to think he could beat ALL, is just way beyond my understanding of how one could ever get to believing that. are you talking about atg's in their 3rd fight, or maybe past prime?
take a look at whats gonna happen tomorrow against whyte. whyte, who would have to improve to be able to carry an atg's spit bucket. and understand the level that fury is actually at.

 

I see your point. I think it would be impossible for any one fighter to be able to beat all the ATG's on history. That I agree. What I mean is, with his size and movement he can be a hard night for anyone. Guys like Ali, Louis, Marciano never had to deal with someone like Fury. So, that's why I say it's possible. He is a diffrent type of fighter. I still think he has a terrible resume, but good skills coupled with size makes him tough H2H in my opinion.

 

That's why there's no reason to Praise him for it, it's not like he's another Usyk or something.
He had to because he wanted to fight for those belts and didn't have the promotional backing and Brit licence to change that.

 

Eh? Usyk goes on the road because it's required of him to make fights. No sense in praising him, either, by your reasoning. You think Usyk wouldn't love to box every fight in front of a packed and adoring Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex?

 

i agree about the size. but size, at hw, is not THE determining factor. 6'6" heavys did not appear 10 years ago, or even 50 years ago. but the guys back then had to contend with a division that could fight. today, they just have to be able to compete with the mediocre. do you believe usyk could realistically unify the division? if so, how? hes just a little guy compared to these elephants today. these big men of today proponents have been swearing up and down that a guy usyks size would never win the title today vs these new modern behemoths. ive been saying all this time, that its just a matter of time, before another tyson comes along and cleans up all these average fighters.
fury is not that skilled. at all. he is being inflated by the air created out of b and c level fighters. hes facing another c level fighter tomorrow, and it will show how he compares to that.

 

Sure, but it's on a completely different level, and none of it due to his own doing like Fury. Also obviously far less reluctant to do so. The fight in Russia against Gassiev being the only exception for obvious reasons.

It doesn't matter why they've had to go on the road, the point is that they've both done so in order to make things happen. And Fury hasn't seemed reluctant on any of his US jaunts.

I wasn't going to refer to Usyk-Gassiev, because I'm not taking petty cheap shots at a fighter out of obvious resentment and enmity. But, seeing as you mention it, it's amusing to watch you quickly shifting to cover your ass and mitigate that situation, like it isn't just as understandable that Fury (or any fighter) would want to avoid fighting in Klitschko's adoptive home nation (where Wlad enjoyed great advantage) if he didn't have to.

There are many who rate Fury highly who are decidedly not 'big men of today proponents' or modernistas.

 

You may be right. Not a Fury fan myself, but not a full on hater either. My being objective tries to see the good aspects in his game. Which I think he does have.
As far as Usyk goes, he's just awesome in my book. He uses his speed and smarts to whoop up on these giants and to your point, the smaller old times would have done the same most likely.

 

yes, the number of people who have only a casual understanding of boxing is almost total, when compared to those who are better informed. i shouldnt have to explain that anybody, pro or amateur, that makes a living out of commenting or participating in this sport, is not going to tell you how inferior the product they make a living out of is. who benefits from the public being told how utterly ordinary their works purpose has become? how does that help their career prospects? what fighter or promoter is going to talk to them? " hey, hearn, i would like to interview you about how utter **** the hw division has become before the next fight youre promoting".

 

He didn't? They had to drag his ass to court, in the first fight he had to defend a belt.

There's an obvious difference. Russia and Ukraine were already clearly at odds at the time. He couldn't expect a fair treatment.
Clearly different as the Klitschko situation.

 

im no hater either. im quite plebish, and often crass in how i express my opinions, but theres no hate, just informed and often accurate analysis. im just giving you what half a century of experience with one on one instruction from world champ boxers and boxing team trainers has given me. heck, i would have to be an absolute idiot if i didnt know more than 90% of boxing fans out there.
i will add, that theres a reason fury acts like sugar hill is the second coming of cuss damato. he understands how little he knew before this unremarkable trainer started to show him. 30 years ago, boxing was full of sugar hills or better.

 

Funny how the Joshua fanboys have fallen by the wayside in recent times. Prior to the Rice Pudding Jr loss, people were overrating him to no end, and still do.

 

That was nothing to do with a reluctance to box in the US, and you know it. It was to do with believing they had reasonable grounds to escape a clause for a fight in which public interest appeared low (you might recall this forum spent almost two years carping on how unnecessary a third fight was), in aid of making a bigger fight for all the heavyweight marbles.

Who expects "fair treatment" in their opponent's back yard period? Russia-Ukraine beef is neither here nor there, hostile turf is hostile turf. Guys get robbed blind boxing just one town over for goodness' sake (I watched a friend get utterly screwed out of a title in a town just ten miles from his own, the judges might as well have been wearing ski masks and carrying sawed-off shotguns). Fury's had points deducted spuriously while flagrant fouls against him were disregarded, has been robbed out of one clear victory — it just so happened the judges (if not Weeks) gave him a fair enough shake in Germany, but they could've just as easily ****ed him.

I generally appreciate your contribution to the forum, Rob. But, in this instance, you're just worming around to justify your obviously jaundiced position.

Yeah, they're all lying through their teeth, every last one, pros, former pros, experienced analysts, even the ones who have nothing to do with ESPN or Top Rank or BT Sport, just because they're in the same industry. Were that true, no pro, former pro or paid analyst would ever have an opinion on a fighter that wasn't glowing.

It's not a term I throw around loosely, but you define "hater" where it concerns Fury. You and I both know you loathe him, all pretense at cold impartiality aside. G'head and do what you feel you need to do to make yourself feel better about him going way further than you ever credited him with being able to. You're also not the only person on this forum who's spent (spends) extensive time in boxing gyms, if you ever have at all.

 

I would be gutted. The real fight all fans of the sport want is Usyk vs Fury.
