I don't disagree but Holyfield fought far more quality oppostion than most of the current generation. Usyk has literally only had a few fights at Heavy so yes he's unbeaten but you can't compare with someone who's had 25 fights at that weight.

 

Well he lost to Vitor Belfort so his achievements mean nothing.

 

You are correct. The problem is there really isn't that many great heavyweights today. If Usyk had AJ x 2 and Fury he is the best heavy of this era by quite a margin and I wouldn't see a point of him sticking around to get depth wins over guys like Parker.

 

If he beats Fury and AJ again he will be top 10 p4p ATG.

Top 10 at HW for sure, primarily because Fury is such a daunting h2h task for people his own size, let alone an older cruiserweight like Usyk.

The achievement would put him in the ATG p4p category although like every other fighter in that category, it's down to personal preference where he's placed.

In terms of comparisons to Holyfield, I see it to a degree however Holyfield was inconsistent at Heavyweight. He certainly achieved a lot, a point I have made before however is that just because he achieved those things and was a fan favourite doesn't automatically wash away his losses.

 

I think the point you're missing is Roy Jones didn't start at cruiserweight.

Roy Jones beat a Hall of Famer (Hopkins) to win his first title (at middleweight), beat Hall of Famer (Toney) to win the super middleweight title in his second division, beat Hall of Famer (McCallum) to win his first title at light heavyweight, beat another Hall of Famer (Virgil Hill) at light heavyweight, and moved up to fight John Ruiz (not Hall of Famer Lennox Lewis) for the WBA Heavyweight belt ... on his way to a 49-1 start as a pro.

By comparison, no one Usyk beat at cruiserweight is a Hall of Famer. Joshua may be a Hall of Famer someday, but he wasn't the best heavyweight champion Usyk could've fought (that's Fury).

And, if Usyk loses the rematch with Joshua (which is very likely given the current situation) ... and falls to 19-1 ... the big question will be where Usyk ranks at all.

Because Holyfield beat a Hall of Famer at Cruiserweight (Qawi) and certainly was a more dominant heavyweight. (And Evander beat multiple Hall of Famers at heavyweight, too.)

I'll be surprised if Usyk's heavyweight reign lasts longer than 10 months. And he certainly won't beat Fury.

(For the record, Roy Jones held the WBA heavyweight title for 11 months. He vacated in February 2004. And Holyfield's reign lasted two years the first time he was heavyweight champ, and another three years after he beat Tyson.)

Usyk may not even have a heavyweight title as long as Roy Jones did.
