When was Whyte ever a great fighter?

I was disappointed with his showing last weekend, even disregarding the result. Besides steadily going to the body there was nothing in his approach that pointed to a plan to win and he didn't bring the fire that he's shown plenty of times before.

He was listless, like a guy who came to cash out. Very different than his fight against AJ and very different than the energy Wilder brought against Fury.

I wonder what happened to the Whyte we used to know. He wasn't his old self during either Povetkin fight come to think of it.

He was down and hurt multiple times, where have you been sleeping in that time ? And how long after Povetkin shatter it for good ?
And everyone with boxing(**** with any fighting knowledge) knows that when a guy getting sparked cold like AJ sparked Whyte, you will never be the same in terms of durability.

Top ten contender like we have seen in the past that didn't or couldn't beat the champion. Was anyone claiming he was great?

What is the standard for giving someone their dues as a legitimate and good contender and name fighter? If it's a standard of greatness, I'm not sure that's a vaguely reasonable standard. Who says he was great or had to be to get a legit shot at Fury? Why would that be the standard of anything? Good Lord.

No one rated him before the AJ fight so how he go from unrated nobody to "decent top 10" with help of a broken soul?
    You making no sense.

Beating quality opposition obviously, but alao hitting the ground here and there and send to Heaven by Povetkin.

Yes but before Joshua he faced bums so he wouldn't be sent to canvas.

No one ever said he was a "great" fighter.

Was he a top 5 HW?

    Absolutely.

Had great promoter connection. That is all. Promoter was great enough to get him ranking. Whyte is good determined plodder. Not world level heavyweight boxer. Not close.

Great? Never. He was simply a contender. The world is littered with contenders that never won the big game.

Whyte was always this level. Sleepy plodder roughhouse basic heavyweight. Never any good. Step up a level and it showed as expected.
