he's amazing in this generation, but do you guys really believe that Tyson could be competitive in the 80s and 90s against the greats, as many have been saying lately?

Yes but I still think he loses to Ali and Lewis certainly.

I don't like this whilst someone is still active.

Also it's tricky because bookended between Furys big wins over Wlad and Wilder, we had AJ ruling the roost before being stopped against Ruiz.

So there's always gonna be a bit of a question as to how he'd have done had he defended against AJ instead of going on a coke binge.

If Fury beats AJ and Usyk though, and retires undefeated, we have to consider him an absolute great.

Biggest challenges would be Lewis, Holmes and Ali. Possibly a prime Mike Tyson.

But yes. Fury is up there with the best.

Of course he could have been competitive.

He’d have been a tough out based upon his size, skills and confidence.

    Nobody is unbeatable though.

Every fighter has a stylistic nemesis.

There's no doubt about it. As he actually put it himself in his post fight press conference (he at least said similar). He's 6"9, 265 lbs, has KO power, moves like a middleweight, world class on the outside and inside, must be one of the best HW's for ring IQ, has a great chin, seems impossible to KO him.

Pretty frightening thought when you put those attributes together. The size advantage alone would make him an extremely tough fight for any HW in history, let alone all the other strong attributes.

No Tyson Fury would not be competitive with any previous era but his own

If Wlad was 6 months younger he would have beaten Fury handily, or if he was 2 years older like against AJ he would have beat Fury. Trust me. I'm a scientist. It's safe and effective.

I have only seen him prove himself against good fighters, not great fighters. But in the eighties there were two great fighters who were great in the eighties, but I've only seen those fighters prove themselves against good fighters. Like, in the seventies, Ali proved himself against great fighters, but those great fighters, they mostly only beat good fighters or great fighters who only proved themselves against good fighters. Even when Frazier beat Ali? At that time, Ali had only proved himself against good fighters or some great fighters who only proved themselves against good fighters or in the case of Liston, Liston had proved himself against Patterson who was great but had only proved himself against good fighters except Moore, who was great, but had only really proved himself at heavyweight against good fighters, and, therefore, WTF do we do this to ourselves?!

    Well ya obviously

He's clearly generational and a bit of a freak genetically. He'd be a handful in any generation.

As for the 80/90s fighters , even they themselves acknowledge he would be. I can drag up numerous quotes ..

Would he be beat them all probably not, would he beat some.. undoubtedly yes, there's a lot of rose tinted glasses going on… Look at men like bowe they got their arse paddled by Golota .. Great fighters but let's not act like they were infallible

He'd be competitive for sure, maybe even beat a couple. But hes not the greatest heavyweight to put on a pair of boxing gloves like alot of people are starting to make claims about.

Would he have been competitive hell yeah, that is a huge bit of prime British boar to deal with, allied with his movement and his ability to utilise that size.

Would he beat lot of them yes I think it likely, however we have only seen Fury against one great in Wlad, and frankly for some reason Mr K really did not show up on the night, but Fury beat the version of Wlad put in front of him so a great is on his winning record.

Fury to date is rather unique in what he physically brings to the ring, a behemoth like that is not supposed to be so agile, a behemoth like that should not be utilising skilled boxing first rather than his bulk, would greats of the past have been able to come up with a plan to overcome these things? Great strategists/boxing minds often can see chinks in apparent impregnable defences.
