Considering how limited he is for him to have gotten to top 5 heavyweight in the world level is incredible. Holding wins over Chisora, Parker, Rivas, Helenius and a faded Povetkin is impressive.

I think most of the current top 10 heavyweights beat him easily.

I was always surprised his fights were PPV in the UK. You have to give the credit to Hearn. It goes to show that boxing fans can be easily duped but we know that already.

    Overachiever? Impressive?

What exactly did he achieve, and what exactly was impressive?

    I beg to differ.

It's impressive like me beating a low level pro is impressive, you knew it could be done but you didn't think I could do it.

UK PPV is the equivalent of like $30 though, and boxing in general is just relatively mainstream there, with a lot of casuals who arent necessarily concerned with who the best is etc so much as the personalities involved. Thats how Chisora has managed to stick around for so long in spite of double digit losses.

povetkin had NO business being in the ring for the rematch. his management team should be charged for a crime for allowing that to happen. his body was destroyed by covid (looking at you, fury!) and every one could see that! i do not give whyte much credit for that win.
but, povetkin agreed to the fight even though he knew that he should not have been in there, so that is on him.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dillian_Whyte :

    - Late starter (20 years old)
    - Limited amateur record (only 6 fights)
    - Managed to be among the top 10

Yeah everything considered, he did well.

What about the first fight though as before he caught Whyte with the big shot, Whyte had twice knocked Povetkin down
I didn't think the two fights looked massively different tbh except for one big punch in the first fight

He was fringe top 5 for a year or two. Never fully separated himself from Chisora and Parker, not to mention Joyce, Hrgovic, etc. In a h2h sense, he was probably never there.

Whyte has achieved a lot for where he came from. He didn't go the classic boxing route with many amateur fights, so credit to him for achieving what he did. Yet, he found his limits time after time.

He fought against 4 guys who held a World Title at some point in their career, got dropped by all of them and knocked out by 3 of them. Plus Rivas knocked him down.

He's a decent fighter, something between gatekeeper and title challenger, but no big talent, just a tough worker in the game. I respect him and I believe he still can challenge someone for the title again with a decent chance of winning. It all depends on the opposition in this heavyweight era.

His win over Povetkin was impressive? Seriously? It's like saying Lewis' win over mcall was impressive.

You always get average boxers that aren't too bad navigate their way to top 5. Look at Charles Martin. How he ever held a World Title is beyond me. I guess it's all about timing and matchmaking.
