The WBC haven't updated their rankings yet. Whyte is still above the rankings as the interim champion
I want Arslanbek Makmudov to get a shot at someone in the Top 10 and see where realistically ranks. Personally I think he punches a hole through everyone.
He ain’t retiring. But in the slim chance that he does and assuming that the winner of Parker/Joyce is taking the WBO route, Wilder/Ruiz for the vacant belt is the likely outcome. Especially when you consider WBC’s PBC ties and their special treatment of Mexicans.
How is it possible (besides the obvious) that a guy coming of 2 KO losses in a row is the WBC #1 contender? It should be Usyk, if Fury continous his career.
Wilder vs Joyce would be interesting, as Joyce has an insane chin, and maybe Wilder wont be able to KO him. Parker vs Wilder I see Parker getting KO'd. He has little to no defence and just stands in firing range. So will basically get KOd. I look forward to seeing Wilder fight again, he's exciting to watch.
Because unfortunately he was #1 before he lost, and no one else has really stepped up to impress at all. Joyce and Chisora are 2 and 3 and who have they beat? Chisora and Takam... lol. Both would lose to Ortiz.
If you're #1 before you lose, doesn't mean you're also #1 after. Actually it's the opposite of how it usually works. You lose, you drop in the rankings, even if you're assumed to be better as the people that were behind you. I clearly fancy JoJo over Ortiz. He also has a slightly deeper resume (which says a lot about the Ortiz one). Chisora always seems to lose his bigger fights, so I'd obviously favor Ortiz over him.
I know that, but what I mean is that the WBC rankings are a joke anyway. What has anyone in the rankings done to prove themselves better than Wilder? Wilder would be moved down to #2, behind Fury, but since Fury has retired, then Wilder is #1 again because no one has done anything to step up to prove themselves number one. Unless you think beating Takam or Chisora proves anything. Wilder is #1 because he's only lost vs Fury, and his best win is Ortiz, which is the best recent win of anyone in the WBC. Ruiz beat Joshua but that was further back than the Ortiz win for Wilder. Since dec 2019 when Wilder beat Ortiz, no one in the wbc has claimed an impressive victory besides Fury who's KO'd Wilder and Whyte, but he's gone now. The next most impressive win besides Ortiz since 2019 is Parker's dominance over Chisora, but who cares about that? Wilder may not deserve to be a champ, but neither does anyone else in the WBC rankings.
Your reasoning has some merit, but bottom line is that Wilder shouldn't be able to fight for the belt unless he starts winning again. Taking it being the WBC into account... Of course it's not as bad as having Stiverne as their mandatory, after coming of a loss, a gift decision against a gatekeeper, not fighting for 2 years and getting busted juicing inbetween. But that's putting the bar so low, it's almost impossible to even trip over it. Wilder just shouldn't fight for the WBC belt next.
WBC rankings are nonsense. Wilder is AWOL and coming off two massive beatings, and Fury won't retire and if he does it will be a few months and will announce a comeback once Usyk v Joshua is completed. If Joshua wins then Fury will be making a deal within minutes, if it''s Usyk I'm less certain it depends what Tyson feels that day. Also I'm not convinced Tyson gives up the belt if he's coming back within 12 months. Belts have been held up longer so wouldn't be suprised.
Question - at what point is the WBC belt vacated? Is it not now if Fury has declared he is retired? Or, do we have to wait for a mando to be called for Fury to then refuse to fulfil it? And in the meantime he remains the WBC World Champion? Seems silly to me but what's new in this game.
If Tyson is vacating it should be Joyce vs Parker for the full title. It’s a great fight and with Wilder’s future uncertain it’s the fight to make.
