Bruce Lee in the UFC

No one would know because no one has EVER seen him fight in a real fight. What you see in his movies is acting and simulation.

Yes he was known as a martial artist but so have millions of people over time. That doesn't really say much. What counts is what a fighter does in real fight scenarios. No one on these boards can give ANY opinion on how he would go in a real fight against an experienced elite fighter.

 

From his sparring footage, you can see modern tactics used today back 50 years ago, he was really beyond his time, they don't call him the godfather of MMA for nothing. He's simply not modern enough to become a top UFC fighter with elite grappling and wrestling, perhaps a kick boxer is a greater comparison. This video is a great watch.

He was pretty quick and looked powerful. But the truth is that without grappling training he'd have a losing record.

 

If you just plucked him from the 60s/70s and put him in the octagon? he'd get ****ing murdered lol. The UFC didnt even come along until two decades after he passed and MMA has evolved so much since that most of the 90s guys look absolutely archaic in comparison to modern fighters.

 

He would have fought at around bantamweight (135 lbs), right?

Based on the comedic level of hatred towards Bruce from both MMA and boxing enthusiasts, I'm going to say absolutely. He was said to have been very receptive and a relatively quick learner when it came to grappling, so it might have took 5 years or less for him to be whipped into shape; especially with the obsessive vigor he went at things like this. I'd love to see him against Dominick Cruz, but I would have to keep plenty of Dramamine on-hand for sure.

 

He'd get his ass handed to him.

 

Bruce Lee is no different than Jake Paul. Except that Jake Paul has actually fought at a professional level.

 

He would do well if he trained specifically for MMA and against the lighter guys.

 

People underate his fluidity and movement in his kicks, these are rare qualities in mma, being able to fight with smooth form, he would have learned mma easy, he is a natural martial artist. he would have been a top 5 or champion.

Bruce wasn't a fighter. During his short life he only ever had a few years of formal MA training from age 14-17. He never competed in anything. Everything he did on the Green Hornet and later in the movies, all the flashy stunt work, was choreographed primarily by Gene Lebell and Chuck Norris who were actual professional fighters and real Martial artists.

He also ran a school through out his career. training chuck norris. Bruce on tape looked sharp on every thing he did. his high kicks were excellent, his straight kicks and oblique kicks are utilized today by fighters like Jon Jones and Holly Holm. Bruce utilized a rear naked choke when he was challenged by a kung fu man for teaching westerners.

He was also a excellent salsa dancer, winning prophies each year. Which tells you he had good rhythm and movement. Much like Lomenchenko who was a dancer himself which helped his boxing a lot by his own account.

I know more about Bruce Lee than you do, trust me. Those claims you made about his fighting background were lies invented among others by his former students Bob Bremer and Tim Tackett in black belt magazine in the 80s. Bruce was basically an Asian John Keegan with a nice little Hollywood CV. There’s zero verifiable proof that he competed in anything during his lifetime. He was a life-long career ACTOR. It’s a well known fact that Gene Lebell and Chuck Norris were his chief stunt coordinators. Lebell and Norris were actual professional fighters and real legit martial artists and should be credited as such.

 

This footage gets taken out of context. It was from an Ed Parker karate tournament in San Diego 1969. Bruce was just a celebrity guest of honour and did a little demonstration with a friend. He didn’t compete.
