Who is the greatest of the 2? I's it Sugar Ray Leonard, the golden child of the 1980 s.? Or has Manny Pac surpassed him and proven him self higher than Ray. IMO, Manny s already one of top 21 st century fighters. Your thoughts?
Pacquiao although Leonard probably has the better single wins Hearns, Duran, Hagler, Pacquiao edges it based on his whole career. His recorded is more padded and filled with good and decent names, aswell as all the titles he won at all the different weightlcass
This is a hard question to answer. In many ways, Manny achieved more. But, I think Leonard is a better fighter. And, if they had fought each other at Welterweight (Admittedly, not Manny's best weight), Leonard likely stops Manny.
There in lies the tough one. I belive as I've said, that Manny is one of the greatest fighter of the twenty first century, he has so many great victory s. But Leonard was a great fighter too and had wins over the big 3. Head to head at welter, yes, Sugar gets it for me too.
Leonard Pacquiao doesn't have the top level wins, nor was he as dominant at any single weight class as SRL was.
Better fighter is Leonard no doubt for me . who achieved more is close but ill probably go with Leonard too by a hair. I like Pacquiao more though but i try to be objective here.
For me thats what edges it for Pacquiao, combined with his longevity. I mean there's just so many solid wins on Pacquiao's resume. But there's just so much depth here, and there's even some guys in Pacquiao's early career like Chatchai Sasakul, who the casual fan might not have heard of. But he was 31-1 making his 6th title defence, he'd also upset P4P top 10 Yuri Arbachakov. And this was Manny Pacquiao's first title fight, and he won it with an impressive KO aged 19. 8 world titles in 8 different weightclasses, the lineal champion in 5 of the weight classes. And competing at the highest level from the age of 19 until he retired at age 42. For me Manny Pacquiao clearly wins this debate, but i know people will disagree and that's fine.
Here's the problem with the 8 world titles in 8 weight classes argument.... * He never officially won a world title at featherweight (though he did win the lineal title off of MAB) * David Diaz was essentially an interim titleholder at 135lbs. A decent contender, but Casamayor was lineal and Campbell was the unified champ at that point. You could make a case that Pac faced maybe the fourth best lightweight in the division to win a title there. * 154lb title was contested against someone who really didn't have much experience fighting beyond welterweight. Pac has some excellent wins, and his longevity is impressive...But given the landscape and the context of those titles, I think only so much value in that particular accomplishment. 5 lineal titles in different divisions over the course of his career is pretty amazing, though.
this is exactly my thinking and proves once again 'achievements' are misleading, albeit in this case Two GREATS, but SRL is the Better P4P, H2H Fighter... and for me, that is the ONLY Measure that matters... again though, in this case, 2 Greats.
Leonard. The wins and the era are just too good. Benitez, Duran, Hearns and Hagler when all of them were coming off dominant wins. That proves more to me, well Hagler was diminished since being inactive since Hearns, but still he was undefeated.. Leonard was just better, but he didn't have the fights Manny did, but he had better wins. He beat the Floyd Mayweather caliber and Manny did not regardless of Floyd handpicking at the right time.
I'm going with SRL in this one. When he defeated Benitez, Duran, Hearns and Hagler they had a combined record of 204-3-3. Hagler & Duran had not lost in ten years. Benitez and Hearns had never lost
