Douglas was a better fighter than people give him credit for. No, he should not be in the HOF based on the one win. However people are in the HOF for their promotion of boxing and that one win brought a lot of attention to boxing it could be argued. HOF is a bit of a joke anyway, too many hangers on in there.

With complete respect to him, the greatest roof in the world is not going to make a cardboard box into a mansion.

Yes. I don't think there is any real set criteria for getting in… But I personally would say yes because he produced one of the standout moments in boxing history. In terms of full career overview maybe not but that one memorable night transcended the sport & deserves an accolade such as HOF induction. If you don't agree with me I don't care lol

The most important take from observing Buster's career for me has always been that even if you beat the great Mike Tyson in your previous fight you can still fail your step up to CW Level miserably in your very next fight and let's not forget he was augmented with an additional 14lbs of Super Fat when he failed his step up to CW Level exam too.

No. Unless you can show me in the bylaws that unlike all the other Hall of Fames it IS supposedn to be about just fame, not accomplishments, one great victory is not enough.

Yeah, he may get in one day.

Randolph Turpin got in for beating Sugar Ray Robinson, but then again Tyson is no where near as great as Robinson.

What do you mean by CW, it cannot be "Cruiserweight"?
Also Douglas gained 15 lbs-& it looked like more, because I'll bet he lost some muscle & added more fat.
I do not believe his waist was only 35" against Holyfield.

More importantly, everyone check out this 30th anniversary article about the Tyson-Douglas fight.
There are facts I did not know-including Sulaiman trying to corrupt the referee!
Looks like he already did much work there, because did you know that entering the last round it was scored as a draw?
One judge for each fighter, one even.

Donald Trump was predictably exploitative & disloyal before & immediately after the fight.
Although I had not heard about the rumored affair with Givens, both he & Don King are perfect (sociopaths) for each other.
While besides his Mother dying & his deathbed promise, his wide left him & his son's Mother struggled with cancer.
Everything but his dog biting him lol!

Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson was boxing's moon landing moment. Everyone who watched it at the time can remember where they were when they saw it.

I mean, does Neil Armstrong belong in the moon-walkers hall of fame? He only went there once.

No not a chance, Buster caught Tyson on the right night at the right time and it was almost inevitable at some point tbh the way Tysons life was at that time. Buster did nothing before the Tyson fight and nothing after .

No he had one great night really. That's it. Can't put him up there with the greats.
