Larry Holmes's stiff arming. Was he EVER called out on it? He did it often and blatantly (I mean, why not, if the ref is never going to call you on it).

Gob smacked. I hadn’t seen that fight before. I’m literally seething. One deliberate solid low blow after another. Jim Grey attacked all the right points post fight - left that ref with no way out except delusional denials.

Back in the pre roid days it was just a straight up case of a BIG head sourced from the genetic lottery. Oliver Cromwell supposedly had a massive head and a bigger head supposedly means bigger brain, bigger IQ and bigger success and a bigger head yet again (metaphorically).

Now, with roids to muddy the waters, it’s a BIG head and heavily suspected PED user.

I suspect that head enlargement by way of PEDs doesn’t necessarily see the brain increase in size in due proportion.

The nuts apparently shrink, maybe the brain does too - bigger head, smaller brain, more room for swishing and brain bashing. Take several seconds for the old marble to roll from one side to the other with each and every punch. Hehe.

Screw ups like that in other vocations or areas of life would likely be dealt with more harshly - even career ending harsh.

I think they should’ve also looked at higher authority mechanisms for intervention in real time - another one might come along like this ref. - what’s gonna happen - just let it play out over 12 rounds while only b*tching and moaning all the while? Even if he’s terminated after the fight, the damage is already done at all levels.

Like Fury often says, boxing isn’t croquet (or something like that) and that cuts every which way, including expectations of due regulation and duty of care to be exercised by the ref - though I know it’s a very tough job and duty of care can seem somewhat paradoxical - but low blows, particularly those here, were clearly out of bounds.

The refs performance could even give cause to suspect corruption - based on being unable to believe a ref could be that bad due to pure ineptitude.

 

No love for Ward him? I like him, but come on he got away with such dirty blows. The Kessler fight comes to mind
