Hrgovic vs Zhang is off

Man, this is so frustrating. I hate to hear about the guy's father, but damn.

 

It happened a month ago. Dumb move

 

I knew he’d pull out. His father dies and a month later he pulls out? Cold feet. I’d have cold feed against a bigger stronger man with a better amateur career too, though. I thought he’d be good fighting a 39 year old, but it seems Zhang will need to be 40 before he gets a chance. Unfortunate for Zhang, this stunt has pretty much ended his career.


Condolences to Hrgovic but you don’t lead a guy on for a month and then pull out out of sadness. You do it out of anxiety.

 

Is this guy ever going to fight? Sorry to hear about his father, but seriously....

 

Rip to H’s father. Dang, I was really looking forward to this one. I like Zhang a lot, I hope they find him a decent fill in opponent and can reschedule this fight as quickly as possible. Time is not on Zhang’s side.

 

You jest, but Zhang has a family back home in China who he hasn’t seen in three years and who he tries to support with his boxing career. Exactly this question, who is going to want to see him? How is he going to make a living for his family?


If hrgovic would have been a man and pulled out a month earlier there’d be no issue. We could have gotten something like Pulev vs Zhang. But instead he let bravado and then anxiety screw Zhang over.

 

That sucks. Sorry to Hrgovic, but this is an extreme bereavement period.

 

Frustrating, especially given the issues he's had finding decent opposition. But having lost my own father a few years ago I understand. It took me a while to realise I wasn't coping with my fathers death and I suspect Hrgovic thought he could continue training for this fight, but clearly that wasn't possible so he did the sensible thing and pulled out.

This is really disappointing. Hrgovic can't pull out like this... this was his chance on the world stage.

I get it, but he should use it as motivation rather than pulling out of this huge opportunity.
