A very good assessment of the fight

glad they got it right, I worried that Bivol languished on the ropes a little too much and let Canelo tee off even though he didnt score cleanly to the head and body I figured they were scoring arm and shoulder blows

Bivol at worst won 2 of the first four and 7 out the last 8 and still barely won the fight on the judges' cards.

Interesting. I was worried the other way. When Canelo was on the ropes, which was certainly more than normal, Bivol would do some very good work. Then he would back off and they would both throw pitty pat jabs for five, ten seconds. I was worried Bivol was not using the opportunity to continue to hit Canelo and score more points in the judges eyes.

I think he was trying to spread himself out. Didn't want to punch himself out.

The wind-up actually gives him good ring coverage because the opponent has to back off unto the ropes which allows him to cut the ring off. You would rather take those shots on the arm rather than risk getting caught clean.

He fought a very intelligent fight so what you say makes a lot of sense.

I actually thought that was to his benefit as ggg would hang in long enough to be countered, bivol did the work and got out

Quoting Badlefthook a place where they cover just enough to call it a boxing website along with it's delirious posters that would make the fanboys here look good, bad look regardless.
