Bivol is just a better boxer than Canelo. Size didn't play a part in the result

Bivol won the fight by fighting in Canelo's comfort zone, he beat Canelo on the inside, he beat Canelo in the mid range and he beat Canelo on the outside.

Bivol was rarely keeping the fight on the outside. He didnt use his height advantge, he beat Canelo in places where Canelo is most comfortable. You could see by round 8, Canelo looked demoralised, he knew he simply fought a guy who is just better than him and that there was nothing he could do, Canelo was actually reacting to feints and backing away from exchanges on the inside which is unprecedented for Canelo.

Bivol would beat Canelo in any weightclass imo

 

Size and weight had plenty to do with it. But Bivol is more technical than anyone Canelo's been in with for ages. Even at 168, it's a very tough fight for Canelo, but the weight certainly played a role. Canelo isn't at his best at 175. Only at 168.

 

I feel that Bivol is just all wrong for Canelo, regardless of the weight class. I want to see the rematch at 168, the thing is it won't change much as both fighters were around 182lbs come fight night (Bivol is actually a small LHW, he only rehydrated 8-9lbs). So if the fight is at 168 they'll both rehydrate to around 180lbs and it will be a replay of yesterdays fight

 

Yeah, no. Bivol is the naturally bigger dude with real 175lb power. Canelo, moving up in weight, looked like poo from the get go just plodding around.

 

Clenelo was the physical bully inside the ring. He was the one pushing Bivol back and pinning him against the ropes. If dice was a factor, Clenelo would have been walked down and stopped.

 

Canelo was only 6lbs or so heavier than he was vs GGG on fight night

 

GGG was about 10-15lbs bigger than Canelo if I recall correctly. GGG is the same dimensions as Bivol just slightly shorter and broader

 

Size did not matter at all. Bivol was just the better boxer, plain and simple.

 

size is always a factor in fights in someway or strength.

 

Size is nothing to ashamed of. People of this forum I noticed sometimes talk like being small with skills is better thing than being big and actuall win fight. All this 'pound for pound" also load of ****.

 

You are right that Bivol was the much better boxer but I do think size played a role. I think that if they were both naturally the same size, be it 160 pounds or 175 pounds, then some of the power shots Alvarez landed would have had considerably more effect on Bivol. In any event, props to Bivol for a great performance.

 

The size mattered. But it wasn't all down to size. Bivol showed great composure to not be baited into brawling or expending precious energy with meaningless flurries. Bivol also showed how to fight at length with good defense. Yet still do enough to clearly take the rounds. He frustrated Canelo without needing to taunt or poke his tounge out. Classy fighter and deserved winner.

 

Are you trying to say that GGG rehydrated to 190lbs?

I completely agree with you. Canelo's physical disadvantages played a big part of his loss. His height is just 5 feet 7 inches while most of the Lt. Heavyweight fighters stand above 5' 10"
