Including Mexico in the continental Americas, is there a vast gulf between the Russian/Cuban fighters and the fighters in the UK and continental Americas in technique and skill level, and needs extraordinary athleticism/toughness to be able to compete on an even level?

The Ukaranians were leading the way until the Russian invasion.

Not really. I mean Spence dominant Ugas who was one of the best Cuban fighters in the world yet Bivol dominated Canelo. Skills isn’t based on nationality it’s based off of talent and hard work.

Spence is skilled but without his massive strength and athleticism would not be able to compete at the level he is at.

Lomachencko is skilled but without speed and agility he would not be able to complete at the level he does. Can't call a mans natural gifts a negative.

Take Teofimo. The only reason he could compete with Loma is because of his massive power and size advantages, not because his skill level was equal to Loma.

One of the top Boxing minds of Uzbekistan actually took a lot of his training methods and gym set ups from Mexican Boxing. They then started producing very high level boxers who compete very well pro. These countries also have a very organised Boxing scene from the grassroots amateur level (government directly promote Boxing ala Uzbekistan or Boxing is easily and widely available in school sports systems), as do countries like Japan (which is why they produce so many good pros). UK and USA are absolutely shambolic in their approach by comparison.

They're better because they 100% live the life. Look how many Cubans have fizzled out once they reach America and can live as they please.

U.S. trainers are the best though, speaking in terms of pro boxing. There's exceptions like Papa Lomachenko, Ismael Salas etc but in general any top amateur turning pro should get a U.S trainer.

lol! Spence is a big welter and Loma has moved up beat bigger men because he has better fundamentals, Spence would be destroyed at light middle.

US trainers and US gyms are the way to go for anyone wanting to maximise their chance in pro boxing.

No, look at how Loma and Usyk are trained, Manny Steward and Cus D`Amato were the best American trainers ever.

What I like about the EE school of boxing is how they emphasise light footwork and in controlling the fight through controlling distance. I feel that the American school is more power based and kind of assumes the other guy will be within range. There's an argument to be made for both, although it's got to be said that currently, at any rate, the EEs are leading the way.
